it does happen, on the no lift shift, one you can hear the "pop"... also, the only race I've had on the street at night, when I got back to where we meet they told me that when I shifted from 2-3 a flame shot out the back... they all thought it was bad ass but like I told them, means its running rich from the factory

Tell this to all the LSJ naysayers that think GM tunes are always lean POS tunes......they'll probably start searching for a random excuse generator like this one

There is nothing wrong with the car or the tune. GM specifically makes references to the popping noises during no-lift-shift operation. No-lift-**** works by dumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust by not igniting or not completely igniting it in the engine. The expanding gases keep the turbo in the boost range between gears (backfiring; this is what you are hearing and seeing).

Cats do not work well at all outside of a mixture relatively close to stoichmetric, nothing remotely near stoichmetric will allow for audible popping sounds. Typically the damage done to cats results from LONG TERM rich mixtures causing them to overheat, not the tenths of a second between shifts.

Lastly, odbii will throw codes if the mixture is excessively rich or if there is misfiring of any sort. The factory tune clearly has allowances for no-lift-shift. The thing I find way more comical is how GM basically skirted federal emissions with this feature.

3 of my buddies have STi's with turbo back straight pipes. All of them shoot flames. 2 of them are tuned. 1 of them has no-lift shift and his flames are the biggest. My 2.4 shoots flames and i have stright pipes. It happens.
