Clutch Capabilities?

I am finally going to bite the bullet and get a tune. I currently have GMS1, 3" catless DP, ZZP silicone intake tube, 3" custom intake w/K&N, Forge BPV, and soon to be hard pipes. I have been talking to Shane from ZZP and he is going to set me up with a tune for around 325 WHP.

So my question is this:
He made mention that the factory clutch may not last too long with this tune. I drive pretty conservatively most of the time (Im in my 30's) so its not going to get the **** ran out of it on a daily basis. I guess what Im wanting to know is, for those of you who have had similar numbers, how did the clutch hold up? If its just going to give out in a month, what do you think is the most I can run on a stock clutch? Thanks for any info.

I have those same mods with the zzp ic and piping. Also been zzp tuned for about 15k miles.
Stock clutch is still holding up fine.
I dont ever go to the strip or anything tho. I do nls once and a while tho. usually when street racing. never 1-2 tho.
I think it all has to do with how hard you drive and grab the gears.

what kind of numbers are you making?

The other thing is, with the meager numbers I have now the car breaks the tires loose on a 2ond gear pull, so that leads me to believe the clutch should hold up since the tires break free before the clutch gives, but I just wanted to get an idea from people who have already done it. Guess I'll go ahead and get it ordered tomorrow.

im in my 30's too, and my clutch only lasted a week tuned with a torque managed tune and same mods...it slips badly in 2nd and some in 3rd too, so the power isnt getting to the ground as it should, plus i suggest an intercooler from zzp as well so it is more reliable and allows you to raise the timing and have much more midrange power...gl man

btw, my car just turned 40k miles and i ran it at the track one time(3 passes) and the rest is in town driving less than 3k rpm shifts...

It’s the torque that kills the clutch, don’t worry about the horsepower. I have a Trifecta un-selectable tune with intake, exhaust, and intercooler and my clutch is fine. It’s been about 20k miles. I don’t know why these other people get a tune and suddenly start slipping.

note the two people in this thread that say they are tuned and don't have any clutch issues are trifecta tuned it would be safe to assume that we are making a tad more power

Yeah I'm aware, but since hp and tq seem to be pretty linear relative to each other with a basic tune its just as easy to give a hp number

Like stated above Hp doesn't kill. Torque does and how you drive it or the person before you did

LOL seriously guys, I know the difference between hp and tq. Dont base my knowledge of cars on my 39 post count. There are some people on this forum who can vouch for me if you really feel its necessary.

Mine started slipping with just a tune and K&N drop-in.. However, with that being said.. I've added hot & cold boost tubes, K&N SRI, ZZP catless downpipe and just recently, a ZZP stage 1 head with cams.. My clutch isn't slipping anymore.. I'm thinking maybe it just needs to be "burned in" to the new power levels lol.. Idk.. it's been a real freak. Car has to have around 350 whp now but I have no way of knowing, but it pulls like a ****; way harder than it ever did with just the tune that caused the clutch to start slipping in the first place. It hasn't slipped in probably a year now. I don't see a need to replace my clutch at this point since it holds fine now even with the higher power levels. Probably once I go big turbo, I will then finally need one, but it remains to be seen so far.

Mine started to slip on the dyno with 360 wtq. Only slipped in 4th and 5th if I was driving like an idiot and boosting too much at too low RPMs. Drive smart and it'll last ok.
