Clutch Choices....

Sorry guys.. I know this has been discussed umpteen times before, but most of what I found was way back in 2012, and opinions are so varying and **** is such a clusterfuck, how is a ***** supposed to get any solid information? Lol.. Any updates?
Options: ZZP SB Stg4 w/stk flywheel, Spec Stg 3+w/stk or aluminun flywheel, KY Stg 4 w/stock or aluminum flywheel? Maybe ACT? I've heard many bad things about Act, but one local guy has one and it's fine. I'm guessing at my power being somewhere around 425-470whp and tq, at least 350tq, possibly over 400 currently. I will likely upgrade more in future so best to get what will hold 500ish or more now. Unfortunately, price is a bit of an issue and that's where the KY is near impossible to beat. My main concerns with this clutch are: My buddy has one, grips well, but only a stg 3 and seems to have alot of noise or chatter or possibly grinding? (fully bolted stock turbo TC) Not sure yet but something didn't seem right to me. And secondly, a stg 4 is 4 puck and is going to grab like a gold digger on Bill Gates' ****, but could this much, dare I say, "excessive" grab be causing people's transmissions to fail? Having a little give/slip on a launch isn't a bad thing Imho. Also, is ZZP's adjustable clutch rod 100% necessary with these aftermarket clutch installs?
I'm looking to buy within the next 2 days!!

Please discuss and if you're running a big turbo, I especially want to hear from you guys
Thanks!

My brother has a KY stage 3 in with a oem LNF flywheel with an upgraded TOB and the engagement is shitty. It's easy to push down but right where it engages it pushes on your foot so it wants you do engage it quicker and the distance that it starts to engage and the full engagement is point is VERY VERY small.

Holds great though, also it makes a tiny grinding noise when it's in neutral and engaged.

I have a KY stage 3 on my car. It holds great and I love it. Once you get accustomed to it, it's not hard to drive even with the short engagement. And mine doesn't have any grinding noise in neutral. I'm also on a stock flywheel. I've heard way too many complaints about the ZZP clutch to recommend that. And for reference, I'm probably around 380-400 whp and around the same torque as you are and have never had it slip.

I had a Spec 2+ in my SS/SC. I hated it. The engagement was so inconsistent it wasn't funny. You never knew when the clutch would grab it made for terrible driveability.

And here's my problem Lol.. it seems these clutch kits are a crapshoot.. one guy says Ky stg 3 is great, another says it's **** and grinds; although, I think my buddy has grinding with his too but I'm not 100% sure. Then there's the ZZP Sb clutches.. one says crap, the other says it's awesome... how is a guy to figure out which is actually good and which isn't? Lol

The grinding noise would probably be the tob...

I have a ky stg3 and i havent put power through it and the engagement is short like stated above but it feels nice to drive. It held all of my 250ft-lbs before i blew my engine lol

What about the GMPP clutch kit. I have read a lot of people use it and have really liked it. And it holds a lot of hp and trq. And is cheap also i beleive.

I think most clutch issues are due to either defective part or person didn't change all the stuff they were supposed to at install. Like tob, clutch pipe, all the bolts, ect.

I went from the stock clutch to a KY Stage 3, I ******* hated that thing with a passion, to the point I stopped enjoying my car. Finally about 2 months ago I switched to ZZP's South Bend Stage 4+ and all I can say is it feels like I'm driving a different car, nice low engagement, smooth as butter. Neither of them ever slipped, just the KY felt horrible and I could never get used to it..

Clutch Choices....

Highly recommend changing the flywheel when you get a new clutch. Even if you're gonna resurface the one you have, I wouldn't trust it. If I'm spending money on a clutch it would be getting a fresh new flywheel to wear evenly in to.

I run Southbend exclusively in my 300ZX. Some of the best clutches I've used.

I'm surprised the clutchmaster and spec guys haven't chimed in. I've never seen anybody complain about them outside of the price.

I haven't replaced my clutch but I think Id go with SouthBends Stage 4 (stay with K04 or K04+/R) or Stage 4+ (if I ever go for a big turbo).

Ok thanks guys.. I was leaning Spec Stg 3+ initially, and still kinda want to go that route, but $1700 is way out of my price range right now Lol.. so.. that leaves Ky Stg 4 or a Sb Stg 4; which I've sourced locally, slightly used.. I think it was on the car one month before it got totaled Lol..
So my question now is, what is this ZZP SB Stg 4 worth, not the 4+, because I know it's $700 from ZZP.. have had my eye on it for ages, but dunno about the other "lesser" clutches. Anybody know? I've offered him between $800 and $1000 including flywheel.. but I don't want to go overboard :P
Thanks

A Spec 3+ is not $1700, it is like $7-800.

KY is ****. I went through 3 of them. All three killed the TOB, 1 slipped, and 1 engaged so high thinking about pushing the clutch would already put pressure on the TOB.

Yes, a Spec Stg 3+ is $1700 up here in Canada eh? That's not including duties either which could potentially be another $200. Iirc, i had a price for $1150ish USD (incl flywheel).. that's $1700 here bro

Check with some of the Spec dealers in Canada. Maybe they are cheaper.
That sucks.
