Coldstart stall problem, video

Hi guys,

i got my LNF tuned about a week and half ago, and in the last 3 days my car stall or want to stall on coldstart.

It is worst on colder weather like 32F, above 40F it will start but want to stall.

I can restart and its running fine though...

Any of you have an idea what it can be?

http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z...TC_startup.flv

I have no CEL yet, i got one flashing CEL a couple days ago trying the first NLS since tuned from 3rd to 4th, it lost power and flashed CEL 3-4 times, it was fine after that though....

i did not retried teh nls yet, i dont know if my coldstart issue is related to my nls issue...

any help would be appreciated!

I dont know if i should wait for a CEL or go to the dealer, i dont want to wait too long if something isnt right...

Mike

Is there a way i can see if its throwing a code without using a scan tool?
Other than that the car run nice.

I dont know if i should go to the dealer yet or wait for a CEL?

Who tuned it? Since you just paid for a tune, I guess you could get your tuner to scan it for you.

It's in french. Low tire pressure, I'd say since the tire pressure light is on, and ICE POSSIBLE lol. Gotta love those french. Ageed. Go bug you're tuner. May need to fix the A/F on idle or start up.

Seems like maybe the cam phaser(s) is sticking. Oil may not be getting to them quickly enough because of the cold. Try a 0W-30 oil like mobile 1 or another synthetic that meets GM 4718M specs. See if it helps.

Mobil 1 0W-30 will have a viscosity of about 520 cSt vs 530 cSt for mobil 1 5W-30 at 0 Celsius. These values are calculated from the viscosities at 40 and 100 Celsius, but should be close enough to the real values, so oil should not be the problem. He got tuned about a week ago, when temps where higher. Temps have dropped now and he is having problems, don't send him hunting for problems for nothing.

Maybe who ever tuned him messed with the cold start cam tables or the ECT spark table. A dry cam phaser or incorrect cat heating cam angles will cause the car to instantly stall like that on cold starts. OP have the stock tune flashed back into the car and see if the issue goes away.

I have selectable tune 22 psi from trifecta, all coldstart are on stock tune basicaly. (i assume?) since the tune go back to stock when i turn off the switch.

I have an update today for my tune to change the tune activation on the ''esc turned off'' instead of ''competition mode''. We are suppsoed to log the car again to see if its still alright, but Vince told me it is not the tune. The car seem to operate like normal, i can hear the turbo spool a little louder from inside teh car with window closed on slight load at part throttle, and the bov (dont remember what we have on our car...) is also louder, i think...

I cant run with the radio now, i just want to hear every single new sound coming from the motor...lol
I know a guy over here that had the coldtsrat issue but he also had a CEL , it was his MAP.

And yes it was just tires pressure warning in french lol.... we have good jump in weather temp those days and one day pressure is fine the other one its too low...

Today startup was like normal and weather is pretty cold, under 30F.

Thx for the help, if anyone have another idea let me know, its appreciated,

Mike

Since his tune is not activated unless he turns it on. It is not the tune because it is on the stock tune. I still say cam phaser issue.

lol. maybe it's a cam phaser, but a 0W oil won't do enough difference vs a 5W30 oil

Oil life is 30% im about to go for an oil change, startup was fine today and yesterday, codler weather though... its weird... but it was sunny... not snowing or raining.
If it does anything...

Got the tune update for the button activation, datalog were very good.
I retried no lift shift but this time from 2nd to 3rd gear and it worked fine, i did it 2 times,

later i tried a 3rd to 4th and it misfired again with the flashing CEL...
I dont really bother not using the NLS though, but id like to get it to work...

Ill see if the startup problem pop-up again, probably it will...never seen a car fix itself lol

Try your NLS a little sooner, the tach lags a bit, you may be hitting the rev limiter if the flashing CEL **** happens, or it isn't warmed up all the way.

I rarely go lower than 40% oil life, for me thats ~5000 miles anyway.

Ok ill try lower, i shift at 6k normaly.

For the oil i also do oil change sooner than that normaly, but i had a lot of overtime at the job making it impossible for me to go to the dealer..

I will do it shortly and if that help my issues.

Mine will act stupid on a cold start if 1. I move the car before before the precat warm-up is done and turn it off then try to restart later (kinda reminds me of my RX7) 2. If I blow a MAP, which I must say when I use NLS my car eats MAPS like a fat kid does cookies.

I've had the same problem you did about 2 months ago... i live in Gatineau about 2hrs from montreal. Started happening the morning after i steam washed my wheels. Brought it to the dealer when it was doing -10 degrees celcius outside and they said that it didn't do it. Was having O2 codes when problem occured and i cleaned it with electrical cleaner and never happened again. Got AEM cai and zzp catted downpipe, superchip tune( switching to trifecta this week ) .Had same problem with or without the tune. Hope this helps your diagnostic. I change my oil every 5000km btw or at ~50%

Well i had this happen to my car in summer. It did it once, popped a pointless code and was fine.

Call it luck or whatever, but it happened the one day i put 10 bucks in at the different gas station.

So thats my rule out on it lol.

Also, with the misfires. aeroforces/scan tools have a tendency to read a high number of misfires, atleast mine does. i get misfires when i put the car in reverse and such.

Thx for the info,

The car start fine now, i dont know if it will do that again, will get my oil changed this friday.

Still have no lift shift issue, my friend got his car tuned this last friday, same tune as me, but he have no problem with nls.... his car seem to run slightly hotter than mine though, mine keep 81-84Celcius on highway, his will hit 90 celcius...

If it have something to do, other than that i dont know, i run 94 octane and he run 92.

I never missed a nls stock so i think its not me, but i cant say....
