Competitive Mode Button
Turning off Traction Control lets your tires spin all they want. Traction Control cuts power to the engine if they start spinning, so it just doesn't cut power.
Comp Mode turns on Launch Control and No Lift Shifting. It also ups the parameters for activating the Stability Control so you can take corners faster.

If you do the NLS correctly, you should hear a clicking/poping sound coming from your exhaust area. I usually try to start my shift at 6,000 RPMs when performing a NLS
Thank you Turbaltss! I've read just about every thread about the nls. Alot of times people made comments like "just read the manual idiot!". I searched my entire (2008) manual and all the paperwork I got with my car and found nothing. Finally, a clear-cut answer that nobody can argue with! It's in the new freaking manual people! Maybe now we can all stop asking the same question over and over.
If you go to GMOwnerCenter.yahoo.com and regsiter (existing Yahoo accounts work) you can add a 2009 Cobalt as "your vehicle" and download the manuals. If you have an 09 and want to verify - do the opposite. Add a 2008 CObalt, and download the 2008 manual.
I'd upload them somewhere, but I'm on a ship in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico

if you go around a turn (like 90 degree) and punch the gas in 2nd with all systems active, you'll notice there is like NO throttle response until the wheels are straight... if its in comp mode, you'll notice a GREAT increase in responce, and if you turn systems off, you can get a little chirp untill your LSD (that you better have) kicks in...
