Darton Sleeves

What would be the advantage of getting the Darton sleeves? I have to build the engine in the next few months (wiseco pistons and carrillo or K1 rods). Should I get also the sleeves? If yes, what would they give me more compared to the stock ones?

Thank you
Christian

Trying to reach at least 600hp. I've got the autowerks 535hp turbo kit, hahn intercooler, custom exhaust by Nick at BYT, intake manifold and throttle body ported by Nick, and an engine build with the zzp head/cam combo will follow

OK, I have been following your build. If your looking at 600hp then the stock block should be fine. I will be on the stock block as well. I should be in the 500+whp ~575-600 crank hp. We will see how it holds up lol. Ryan at ZZP was on the stock gen two block at 624whp

if you will try to get 600hp, I suggest that you get darton sleeves. They'll make your block solid and stronger that will be able to hold tons of boost, heat, etc.

since youre already pulling out the block and installing aftermarket rods/pistons.....might as well have these darton sleeves installed...so you only build your block once. It will be cheaper in the long run

A strong block is the foundation of a great engine.

make sure have those darton sleeves installed by a knowledgeable machinist.....or have darton install it for you.

good luck.

600 is kindve pushing it on a 5557 the 5857 is good for 605. When I built my motor I didn't go with aftermarket sleeves the gen 2 block sleeves are pretty stout. I have weisco pistons and carrillo h beam rods and running a 5857 looking for 550whp

it did eventually blow up though. it's great how far you can push them but do you really want to push your luck that far? a local had his LNF sleeved by darton. i think it was $1,600 installed

Why do you need a machinist to install the sleeves. Just bear with me because the only motor where i did sleeves was a v12 turbo diesel and you use a sleeve puller which was straight forward. What is the difference between that big motor and any other one. Thanks. And to the op i definitely recommend you get them for the same reasons sky888 said better to be safe than sorry.

The sleeves actually do press out, but the new ones are thicker and need to have more aluminum removed, so you need machining.

Thats further than I am pushing mine for this year I think. I would like to make 500-525whp, and run 10's on the stock tranny just to show people it can be done. Watch the tranny blows on the first pull now lol.

Thank you for all of your advices (btw, I thought the 58/57 was good only up to 570hp). The all thing, including the sleeves, will be installed by Nick at BYT.
Just one question: even tho I get the dartons, is it ok to bore them to 88mm and get the 88mm wiseco pistons? Because I was really looking to bore and stroke the engine to 2.4 with the LE5 crank plus 88mm wiseco.

I need to find out if the darton sleeves can be bored from 86mm to 88mm, wiseco can make 88mm bore pistons.

I stuck with stock 86mm thought about boring it out and running bigger but I think it would cost more and have lil benifit

Would have a lil benefit if you just bore it, but if you combine it with a stroker using the 98mm LE5 crank, then would be good

Darton sleeves are stout as hell. I would definitely recommend them. In shop class in H.S. back in the day we built a 350 .030 over with some of their sleeves. Ran the hell out of it with no scoring or anything. Your rings play a large part in that as well. I still think you are going the wrong route with the stroker but the sleeves are definitely on the right track. Bore the cylinders out a bit too and you will get more volume to spool that turbo faster without needing to add a longer throw crank.
