Differences between a 91 and 93 octane tune

Just wondering what HP/TQ differences i can expect from a 91 or 93 octane tune (assume on an otherwise stock car). I'm going to spring for the trifecta tune, but 93 is hard to find (but possible) here in Ontario. 91 is much more common. I'm concerned about long road trips and 93 availability, if I'm tuned for 93, but if the HP differential is substantial, I may decide the inconvenience is worthwhile.

What would you guys do, and what differences should I expect?

Thanks!

mal.

just get tuned for 93. there isn't that huge of a difference. but this way your tuned for it. and if you have to get 91 there won't be any damage. the computer will sense if there is any knock and bump the timing however it needs to. if there is any...

It won't go into limp mode, or anything of that nature? Never actually tried putting in lower gas than suggested in the past.

The only difference is knock resistance, but as stated before the ECU will compensate for it and achieve its target goals for optimal performance.

I know - that's exactly my problem. Can't guarantee availability depending on where I'm driving in Ontario. Should be OK most of the time though - just need to be diligent.

1. Sorry to reaffirm guys, but will it really be safe for me to get a 93 tune, then run 91 gas in a pinch without harming the engine, and if so, how long will it take the engine to re-adjust itself once I fill with 94?

2. Really 15-20hp/tq? Yikes, that's quite a lot.

Mal.

edit: oh yeah, what about having some octane booster with me?

Do not use octane booster with any of the cars, it says right in the owners manual to avoid anything with mmt in it and i shopped around and found nothing so far, so unless someone knows of something without it, just stick with 91-93 and you will be fine.

it allows for a bit more timing while tuning but other than that not much!

Torco is about the only "additive" that I would run in the car. Then again it leaves orange crap all over your junk.

104+ octane boost has no MMT in it.

X2.
It allowed me to add 4* to my stock timing. Added almost 18 whp and 20 wtrq, but when I got retuned with my mods we ended up pulling out 2-3* because the engine was breathing much easier. ie. greater VE. So not as much time needed to burn the mixture. It was knocking between 4500rpm and 6000rpm.

Yes, but it would take probably two cans on every fill up. Kinda costly for twenty octane points. 1 octane point = 0.1 octane rating
