downpipe install help please

Im about to install a catless downpipe on my car. im just curious exactly what tools i will need so im prepared? i have heard an extremely long extension (or a few) for one of the bolts. and it seems like the install should be simple. I have good basic tech skills. Thanks in advance!

A 15mm gear wrench is one of the tools that came in handy when I did mine, also to get the o2 sensor our of the factory down pipe I had to use a pipe wrench. The connector for the O2 sensor can be reached from under the car much easier than from under the hood.

get a bunch of extenders, the top left bolt that connects to the turbo and the top one that connects to the exhaust pipe are a BEEEEEEEAAATCH to get off

but a bunch of WD-40 an take the o2 sensor off first before you try to take the other bolts off, so you can maneuver the pipe around as you see fit.. I went to O'Rielies (or wtfever...) an got the o2 quik-disconnect part, makes it sooooo much easier

It's really only like a 10 minute job, but all the bolts bein so tight makes it a 30min-6 hour(o yea) job, depending on how many breaks an beer you wanna take

Just make sure you unplug the O2 sensor and get the cable separated from the heat shield before you go twisting away on it. If you twist that wire around too much, it'll start throwing codes due to shorting or opens.

It is easiest to disconnect the O2 sensor from under the car.

I didn't even disconnect my 02 sensor tbh. I just pulled the wires completely out of the heat shield, and then let the wires twist a bit and tucked em back in the heat shield. Doesn't hurt a thing and makes life easier.

I did mine on my back under the car on jack stands. Was a total pain in the butt. Definitely pre soak the bolts with PB Blaster. You will most definitely need extensions (I recommend wobble style ones) and a breaker bar. Mine were REALLY on there pretty tight. I used a crows foot style socket for the O2 sensor. AutoZone rents them.

Have fun.

Should you just tighten the bolts down nice and tight, or torque them?

The O2 sensor is a 22m wrench.

Any old 22mm wrench will do, I beleive a 7/8" will work as well.

Disconnect the O2 sensor at the connector first, its not a good idea to keep on twisting them while you back the sensor out.

Its really straight forward to do.

first thing i did was get chuck norris to loosen my o2 sensor because that thing was on there. then i did all the bolts then took the o2 sensor out, seems like the wire for the o2 sensor is made to twist.

ahhh i gotcha haha. i actually have a zzp catted dp right now and CAI and tune. my catback exhaust is stock but no resonator and a magnaflow 14" muffler. im curious to see how much louder it will be catless vs catted haha. the reason i was curious about install is i didnt install my catted dp myself but im gonna do the catless dp myself. i hope it still sounds good catless since all i will have at that point will be just a muffler lol

15 mm gear wrench and socket with 3 extentions, i also used one small extention that could move to 45 degrees, for the one bolt on the o2 housing side thats hard to get at, an impact wrench for that top nut on the back part of the downpipe works great since the exhaust moves alot and its hard to get loose. i never dissconected the o2, just unscrew it and tuck it up somewhere where it wont fall. and yes get antiseize.

No sir, not made to twist. No such thing without an electrical rotary union.

it took me an hour... the biggest pain in the ass bolt is the upper bolt connecting to the catback... the stock cat is in the way... install only took like 10 minutes.

i'd like to add it's always good to go to an autoparts store and pick a few extra bolts for the job you want before starting any major job on the car. (If you know the bolt size and length) get some grease for the bolts as well for any future jobs. From experience after i broke a caliper bolt, and had to go use another car to pick up another one(what a pain in the ass) !!!! even though it's a downpipe it's very helpfull and can't hurt to have extra parts...
