Downpipe mayhem
Downpipe mayhem
its time for something new, i decided to go with a downpipe. all i have is an intake and trifecta tune. i believe im going with ZZP because of the nothing but great things ive heard about them and how theyre products are proven. i need deciding on catted or catless. legalities? problems? emissions? anything else? all input is appreciated especially from vendors with sales
thanks guys

the biggest thing is do you know if your county actually checks for cats when being pulled over or in emissions testing lanes and such? ive never been asked or questioned about having a cat. i love the way mine sounds without it. its honestly all personal preferance
IMO catless is better
Why?
- Can always put stock DP on for emissions
- Cops aren't going to check if you have a cat, if you have loud exhaust your most likely will just get a ticket for a loud exhaust
- Aftermarket cats get clogged easier
- Catless sounds badass!

agree!!!!!
if you search or read through the FIRST page of the 08-09 section you wouldn't sound so dumb
and you can spit hot fire

And stink up everybody's car behind you sitting at a traffic light, thats always a plus.
I am going to go against the grain here and tell you to go WITH a cat...
1. First off, all cars today are designed to work with catalytic converters. With the old school muscle cars, taking the cats off would be a big hp gain, but thanks to modern engineering I am willing to bet that catless downpipe vs. one with a high flow cat is close to zero (That would be a nice back to back dyno test). In fact most cars nowadays make more power WITH cats then without them.
2. CEL's are possible and your exhaust is going to smell like ****. Also, the extra carbon monoxide produced could be hazardous to your health. If for some reason a cop decides to get on your case he can bust you for not having one. When emmisions time comes around, you wont have to change downpipes or anything like that.
3. Eco-Friendly. You can feel a little better about burning all that gas without blowing more pollutants in the air then need be.
So thats my take on the situation. Do what you prefer, but I feel these are all valid reasons to spend the extra few bucks for the catalytic converter.

holy **** i just got BURNED on the internet. thanks for the 'help' i should have just PMed you since i mean, your the expert. no need to be nasty
went with catless. dont need to worry about cops lol pollution? hybrids pollute more than ANY 18wheeler. **** pollution. first off, the nickel for the prius battery is mined in canada, because of no envirnmental restrictions. where the mine is, is the LARGEST dead zone in the world. talk about pollution. the batteries are assembled in japan, again no EPA worries. also, the batteries cost 3500 to dispose, and 7000 for the replacement at the 100000 mile mark. just thought id point out the hipocracy in liberal thinking. lol also, where do all these hazardous batteries go??? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, bottom line is hybrids are a farce. excuse the rant. downpipe feels and sounds great. def pulls harder.

Edit: Didn't see the rest of your post about going catless ha. Whatever works I guess ha.
I am going to go on record as saying I wish my loping camaro had cats.
And it is weekend cruising and race only. The smell is enough to drive me crazy enough that if I got to decide on it today, I would give up 10 HP to go cats (the cost of changing my mind today is not worth it, I will deal with it but regrettably)
For a DD, I would not even consider for a second what it would be like driving store to store, tie and all smellin like 93 octane.

The thing to consider if getting a catted DP with a tune... I've seen 1900*f EGT's. Pretty hard on cats. Granted those are ECU calculated temps but still... I had a ZZP catted DP on and then went catless when I was afraid it'd melt after turning off the .74 lambda COT protection.
