Driving the GMS1
I thought I would start this thread just to let people know what the GMS1 does from a driving perspective...
I'll add to the list as you all put up suggestions and let me know what your thoughts are!
- It pulls. Hard. All the way through every gear.
- Boost holds steady at 20psi, but you can brake boost up to 23psi.
- Peak torque is at 4400rpm. Peak HP is around 5300rpm. Not entirely sure when to shift to get the best results, but in first and second it seems prudent to just run it out. You may want to shift earlier in 3rd, since you at least won't be spinning the tires.
- MPGs are a bit funny. Cruising around town at 40mph, in 4th, my instant readout says I'm getting 30+mpg, but when I shift to 5th, it then says 57mpg. I noticed that at any speed, the higher the gear the better the gas mileage. By a lot. Stay in 5th as much as you can if you want better mpgs.
- Torque steer is a lot of fun and with how hard it pulls you'll have to be aware of this, especially WOT in 2nd and 3rd.
- When getting it installed, you can buy from the dealer, or from CED, but either way, make sure you have the activation code that comes in the box.
- Expect the dealer to charge 1-2 hours install time, but if you install the sensors yourself then expect them to charge about an hour for the reflash.
- If you do the install yourself, make SURE the sensors snap in place. The new ones are have a small bit that needs to be ground off (it's in the instructions), and if not completely snapped in place, can fall out. If you are driving and boost suddenly won't go above 5psi and your car is limping, the sensor likely came out. Just pull over and shove it back in.
- This kit, according to GM, boosts HP from 260hp to 280hp and torque from 260tq to 320tq. It also removes the learn down feature, so any bolt ons (intake, etc) should now add to your power instead of getting learned down by the system. I dyno'd my car and, with a AEM CAI and Agency Power Exhaust, I am making 286whp and 323wtq.
I'll add to the list as you all put up suggestions and let me know what your thoughts are!

My car is stock, all but Stage I .It pulls much harder then it did but I do not find torque steer to be that much more noticable. I only got about a half an hours worth of driving on the kit but by the sounds of it bolt ons make a difference .Time to start bolting.

My car has an exhaust and an AEM CAI, so not stock but it was still learned down. Funny thing is, I get crazy torque steer, but it seems like people are talking about burning their tires all the way through second and mine don't. I can get the tires a little chirpy at WOT in 2nd, but it's not like they completely lift off and just burn.
Now that I have the stage kit I'm completely salivating over a downpipe...

I found that the amoumt of tread makes a big difference. On one of our cars it had a lot of torque steer at WOT. A new set of production tires and it was greatly reduced. All of this was on dry hot pavement.

First impressions with tune/downpipe:
All systems GO. Smooth idle and LOADS more torque from just off idle all the way up to ? Didn't get to wring it out too much yet but with traction off and factory Conti's with only 6k or so, a 40ish roll would get them spinning. Very nice and no issues or codes, knock on wood. ^Those dyno numbers are looking nice,I'm sure track times will too. And with the catted downpipe the car is still quiet, just slightly deeper tone in boost. Airbox mod next then maybe hotside charge tubing. All in all happy as hell
