Dynamat

Ive been tinking about dynamating my fender wells (on the inside of course), to try to cut down on road noise. Anybody ever do this? What do you think of the idea? This car is my daily driver, and I think it would be nice to be able to cut down on the tire noise on the highway and what not.

Any input?

Turn up the radio/cd player. Dynamat is going to add some serious weight to the vehicle.

dynamat would pretty much kill your MPG's if its your daily driver and your not going to stereo competitions then i probably wouldnt do it. if its bothering you that much then sure, but stuff aint cheap either.

Thats actually close to my second thought....I was thinking of spraying the wheel well plastics with that ruberized asphalt spray for undercarriages and wheel wells....thats supposed to deaden the sound some.

My main goal is to cut down on ROAD noise, like tire noise and bumps/rattles...not make the sound system sound cleaner.

Someone else mentioned the Second skin spectrum... I just did a bunch of reading and looking at pictures of it. That stuff seems really cool... could be a way to cut down sound without adding too much extra weight.

Dynamat wouldn't add THAT much weight, I'm literally holding a couple 12x12 sheets right now and it couldn't add more than 10lbs max to put 4 squares on the side of the wheel well (1 square on each) facing the cabin. MAYBE 20lbs if you used a little more, but that's really pushing it. You could see a bigger difference in weight with two different drivers. It'd be interesting to see how well it worked tho, I'd do it if made a noticeable difference.

Everybody over on LS1tech does it to their cars because they produce sooo much road noise. They all say it's simply amazing stuff, especially if you put it in the right areas for those cars (doors, above fuel tank, around rear quarter panels). I'd like to put some in, but the stuff is very expensive and a pain to put in.

second skin is messy dynamat doesnt add too much weight especially if used on just the fender walls. take out your spare tire if you need to compensate

I have to say, I used dynamat in my current car to quiet some things down and never really noticed a difference. Not saying it did not help, but if it did, I did not experience it.

I love how you never hear anyone stopping another for putting 300 pounds of system in their car but the second they say they want to add some sound deadener everyone turns into jenny craig's wieght watchers.

a lighter soloution:

i used edead in my civic si.. that **** is messy. i would not recommend that stuff unless you are doing a custom sound system.. and even then you would use dynomat extreme and then coat the second skin or edead crap over the dynomat extreme. this is for like competition. and is an alternative to concreate lol. get some dynomat extreme and line your fenders that should suffice. the edead/liquid skin mess **** is heavy at first but it is mostly water weight. i think dynomat works better between the two but if you use both it is great dynomat then the second skin over top..
