FWIW,

While on the dyno, I tried increasing timing past 23* and making the boost ramp in harder:

Bumped timing starting from 2k all the way up and peak was 26* (5k on up). Lost power, everywhere.

Then tried increasing boost/making it come on harder (spiked 26lbs), while running 23* and lost power.

As was already said, E blending is fun and is generally pretty safe but when you start to really push the envelope, ***** going to break if you aren't on top of things.

I personally have boost ramping in slowly (more so to protect the crying stock clutch by getting rid of the boost spike) to a max of about 21-22psi & run 23* peak timing. Car runs almost as hard as it did when I had the boost ramping in much harder.

Here is the status update:

I had planned to get a current baseline on gasoline this weekend, but the boys at the shop where I dyno went AWOL on me (went to Houston for some racing event). Weather permitting, I'll try to get on the dyno next weekend (they are predicting a winter mix for mid week). I will use the same dyno (Dynojet) for all testing (before and after).

I had this car on the dyno once back when I had no mods (well, K&N drop-in filter only) plus a conservative Area47 tune. I made 276 HP and 331 TQ. I currently have AEM cold air induction, ZZP catted downpipe, MPx intercooler, and Clear Image hot side charge pipe. Pretty much the typical, average, run of the mill, bolt-on performance mods with a stock turbo.

Once we get another dyno baseline, then we'll start tuning for a 2:1 ratio ethanol mix. This means two parts 91 octane gasoline and one part E85 (really E70 right now since it's the winter mix). This will give me "about" E30 or 30% ethanol blend. Once spring arrives and E85 is back to 85%, then this mix will be "about" E35 (we'll have to tweak the tune again probably).

So, be patient. It might be a week or two before I get on the dyno. Then it might be another week or two of tuning and logging. Then I have to schedule another dyno session. I'll report back as I have more info. Doing it sort of scientifically like this should take the guesswork out of trying to decide if going to an ethanol blend is worth it to you.

I'm trying to learn HP Tuners, but in the meantime, BYT is doing the heavy lifting as far as the tune goes. I have to say he has been great to work with and has gone above and beyond the call of duty on my car. We have been sending tunes and logs back and forth for some time now. It took us 8 flashes so far to get the gasoline tune to where we like.

EDIT: we've done 11 flashes now for the gasoline tune.

More info please on how things went to give us an idea what to expect. What blend did you use? Do you have before and after 60-100 mph logs/times?

I am on 50/50 so call that whatever E blend number you want. Whenever I gas up I put equal parts of both 93 and E. It went fine. As soon as the E was in I drove around to get it mixing and in the engine. As soon as the LTFTs were off about 15% I started logging and sent that in to Nick, BYT. He took care of the rest. He eased me into the tune and we went up from there.

Its great man! The engine seems to love it and it doesnt feel like Im forcing to its limits like it was when on 93. All the while making more power. Apparently, our 93 over here sucks. Hes got my logs and I dont mind him posting what my 60-100 is. Im not sure how to find that in my HPT log. All I know is my best on 93 was like 6.4 seconds lol

Thanks Nick!

Thanks for the info. Any plans to dyno? We only have 91 octane here, so you can imagine what I'm going though.

I logged 5.4 sec 60 - 100 mph on E10 93, 4.2 sec on 60% E (1:2). Same bolt ons.

Wow, that's quite an improvement. I'm at 60-100 mph in 5.4 seconds on gasoline too. Did you have to increase your fuel rail pressure? You are definitely pushing more ethanol in the blend than what I'm willing to try.

Yeah Im hoping to dyno after spring. But Ill probably have the 2860 on there by then. 93 had me at about 310 on a purely Trifecta tune. This feels waaaaay more powerful.

I can run 60% on stock fuel pressure, I went 70% before I had issues. I am currently running 2800 psi >160% load.

I have an appointment on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 5) for the 91 octane gasoline baseline dyno session. Once that's done, we start tuning for an ethanol blend next week if the weather cooperates.

Last time I had it on the dyno it made 276 HP and 331 TQ with only a drop-in filter and conservative HP Tuners tune. I currently have AEM cold air induction, ZZP catted downpipe, MPx intercooler, Clear Image hot side charge pipe, and recently retuned.

Feel free to guess what you think I'll make. I'd be tickled pink with 310 hp. BYT thinks it'll make about 315-ish.

Official baseline dyno = 300.6 hp and 345.2 tq (on a Dynojet).

The clutch slipped on one pull resulting in 307 hp and low tq. But, it was not a clean pull, so I threw it out.

There is snow in the forecast for the next week and looks like I'm going to need a new clutch; therefore, the ethanol blend tuning is put on hold for a while.

Well, still gained a good 25whp! That'll keep you busy until you can get some E in there and make another 25

I would have to get those numbers from the shop. Should not be a lot of difference since the temp was close to standard and there was low humidity.

General consensus is 2.6% difference between SAE and STD. This held true to my own numbers as well after my recent dyno with E blend.

Your numbers come out to:
292.78 WHP
336.23 WTQ

That's damn good with a clutch that isn't too happy. Tune not too aggressive either I'd assume. I'd say to expect 330ish/360ish when you get to blending E if you plan to keep it pretty conservative.

I'm in the same boat as you though, clutch isn't too happy with me right now. I feel your pain!
