Exhaust Help

Hey guys. So im spending some time looking into getting an exhaust custom done but there are so many options with the set ups its driving me crazy. I am very picky with the sounds i want the car to make obviously. Now im assuming because im going to be switching to 3 inch pipes that i need a 3 inch inlet . By the looks of things they only offer 1 of these. So I have a few questions about them. What combinations can i use to get a deep and somewhat quiet sound from my exhaust? What role does the length of the resonator play? How does the diameter of the outlet affect the sound. How does the diameter of the exhaust piping affect the sound and how do glasspacks compare to standard resonators as far as sound goes. Thanks in advance

First off, I went with a custom 3 inch exhaust so I've been right where you are. If I were you, I would look into getting a downpipe before custom building an exhaust. I chose modern's catless for 300 bucks. But there are several companies that offer downpipes including zzp, modern, CIA, turboxs, etc that sell catted and catless downpipes. There is a sticky thread on downpipes I suggest you read over.

To your questions on resonators...the longer the resonator the more you control the resonance (sound). Resonators also help with drone at cruising speeds so the longer you go, the less drone you will have. I have yet to hear about anyone on hear using glasspacks so I can't help you there bro. But I love the deep tone that Vibrant Performance offers in their mufflers and resonators. The diameter of the piping makes a difference in sound as well. As far as performance goes, you will not need 3inch unless you plan on heavily modifying your car. Hope this helps you out and best of luck!

^^^yeah I'm straight piped at the moment but I think I'm going to put a vibrant street power muffler on it for a deeper tone and retain the free flowing exhaust.

To OP:

what is your current mod list? I ask, because if you are looking for performance at all, exhaust is the last thing to mess with (especially for what they can cost). If you're just looking for Show and not Go, then hey, rock on; I like the Hahn exhaust sound myself. Plenty of vids with it.

Right now I have gms1, k&n SRI, Megan catless downpipe. Right now Im not really to worried about performance. (if that were the case i would go straight pipe) I am not really interested in the hahn system. Yes it is nice but it is ridonculously expensive to buy and have shipped. I have foud that magnaflow does glasspack muffler but i have yet to hear one on a cobalt and the muffler runs about 80 bucks.
