Fuel Pump

Well I have 70k miles on my SS/TC and about 6 months ago I noticed a sound comming from my engine that sounded like a tick in the valve train or maybe a spun bearing noise and also seems like i have lost some power, but the funny thing is it only made this noise under boost.

So I thought maybe it was the turbo. So I ended up taking it to the dealer. It took me like 5 trips to the dealer to get them to hear the sound because the sound was random and went away after the car had been running for at least 25-30mins. It is really profound when its a cold startup.

Anyway what they found was that the noise is coming from my secondary fuel pump. This pump makes a tick noise anyway and the car has already had the jacket installed on it via the service bullitin.

So my question is, with lose of power and this funny noise going on from it during boost only, is the pump on its way out?

Ok well it turns out after futher research that its not the fuel pump, but my turbo. Its making racket when its cold and I have lose of HP on boosting with extra turbo lag. It looks like the internal waste gate is the issue, very simular to what this video shows only my problem isnt as severe as this one but the noise I have been hearing is definately there during engine revs:

Anyway the GM tech at the dealer finally heard it on the turbo today, now hopefully it's getting replaced under warranty.

wonder if thats what mine is doing, in the mornings when i start it and go thru the cat warmup it sounds fine, usually let the temps get up to 140 or 150 before i roll out. don't ever get into boost till its completly warmed up. but once i roll out and put motor under load and hit about 2k on the tack i get a noise almost sounds like an oiling isue with the turbo, like dry beiring or sumthin, but it will go away shortly there after and i wont have the problem again till i start the next morning. need to go to dealer i guess and have them check into it. bad thing is it only does it in the morning after first start up.

Thats exactly what mine is doing, during cold startup. I had to leave the car at the dealer over night and come back in the morning and they hooked up a tool that listens to all different parts of the engine including my turbo and i drove it while the shop forman listened to the engine. Get it checked out when you can.
