Fuel pump sending unit help.

I just changed pumps on my car, the old pump had a tan wire and a brown wire that went to the fuel level sending unit. My new pump ( AC Delco ) has two purple wires, I cant really see any difference in the color. When I saw that I thought maybe it wouldnt matter what order I put them in being they were both purple. Seems to not be the case as my interceptor and fuel gauge both read zero with 5 gal in. Anyone know the order they go in? Also there are three possible slots on the sending unit, two side by side and one on the other side. Disgusted it has to come out again. Anyone do this recently that can shed light on the wires?

2 purple. Seems really odd. No black. I will switch them around, but the fact there is 3 slots for the wires to go also has me scratching my head.
