This is the 3rd or 4th guy who has told you this. Get the kit and then put on you basic bolt-ons. Then when you are ready to throw away your warranty go get tuned.

Get the stage kit, then download your gms1 file to Hp tuners and tune on top of it. Flash that to the spare vcm and run that. Keep the stage 1 vcm for if you have to goto the dealer.

Plus NIck (BYT) charges cheaper to tune than most tuners who charge $250.

I'm with Stage I untill the warrenty runs out. Then HPT FTW! Being able to completely tune your ride with all tables and shiftpoints, and redline. Is awsome. Having the works to tune at anytime.. and not by sending a program halfway accross the country is a plus in my books. Always a custom tune for your ride. It's like lasix. Go with custom or whatever they have the machine set on that day.

Stage I is really nice btw! The tq in first is not that impressive, but the 2nd gear smash really widens your eyes. Keeping your warrenty for a few extra $100 can be costly all at one time, but looking at it this way. You keep your integrety for being honest, and not masking the added hp/tq abuse to your ride. Also, people keep saying how the lower hp/tq raiting is a joke. Seeing the dyno of the actual tune is very respectable. Better mid lvl power threwout. Quicker faster and more reliable power is a must for me. Specially for a DD. Once warrenty is out and have a backup driver.. I plan on making this a fullout race car. So much potential in a small package. Have fun and do what you think is best.

If you have a major motor issue your FFF'EEDDD ........regardless of the tune. If you have the stage kit they are going to say you abused the car . In their eye's ....Why else would you need a stage kit??? if not to drive the car hard....Why do you need more power ?? to race !!lol

Look at the crap Marin went threw with a stock...... low mileage car when there was a major motor repair . It won't be pretty . All said , I would go with the stage kit and then have a good tuner tweak it , atleast then you can run all the boost you want, without worrying about blowing map's weekly.

I went the stage 1 route for the new sensors and updated code (in theory) (2008), once the car is paid off (warranty or not) and I have a backup, I'll tune over it via hpt.

On a related note, just got the kit installed today, and i can definitely agree, the extra 2nd gear kick makes it feel like a brand new car. 1st is still the same ole same ole.

This is what I would recommend if you have the money. The GMS1 tune is much more confident than the stock tune, and I don't mean strictly HP/TQ numbers, the car feels entirely different throughout the RPM band even when not mashing the gas to the floor. Any hesitations I felt the car used to have are gone and it now responds very well to whatever throttle inputs I give it. I believe OntarioKev already pulled the GMS1 tune with HP Tuners, or has been looking to do it and I'm convinced it serves as a better baseline to tune from than stock; GM knows the car best so why not start from there right .

I'm not going to tell you to go GMS1 just because I chose to. It's all about what you're looking for in terms of power output. Me, I don't need 350 some WHP right now, nor do I need that much when I'm intending to do autocross this year. It's not that I don't care about straightline speed, that's fun in its own right, but the GMS1 has enough get-up-and-go to get my car impounded and my license revoked in the blink of an eye. I have to pick and choose when to get on the throttle with the laws we have in place in Ontario with respect to "street racing" or "stunt driving" (ie. going way too fast )

As far as warranty, I have a better chance of GM honouring my warranty with this kit installed than going with a second ECM. I'm not saying they can't try to revoke it if they suspect abuse, but they'll turn around a hell of a lot quicker if they even suspect a custom tune (go look-up Marin's story when he wasn't ever custom tuned and his rocker shattered, they were suspicious; at least my car is registered as a GMS1).

I'll leave it at that .

Everyone is going to get them instead of a custom tune for warranty and whatnot.

And then later down the road a lot of people will want more, and end up going custom tuned anyways.

Look what happened with the LSJ's. A lot of people weren't happy with the stage kits and went farther, well a lot of people were happy with it and stayed.

Just decide if you will be happy with what the GM S1 will give you and decide.

If you are happy staying around the 300 whp range then go with teh GM S1, otherwise go the custom tune route.

Yes I concur. Good start is gms1 then later on you can tune on top of that.
