Clearly there is an issue with the internals and ideally I should be able to just replace the rings unless anything else is damaged but I wont be able to tell until I take the motor apart.

Make sure you do a compression test if you are having issues resolving misfire issues, I should have done this long ago.
Time for an engine swap. It's the new cool thing to do.

I read about problem solved with replacement of spark plug boots...whatcha know playas

Rubber in my coil boots had deteriorated and was caught in the springs, as well as dielectric grease baked onto springs from me putting a dab almost everytime I changed plugs. I sprayed MAF cleaner in boots and let it sit, then scrapped away the mess in the springs, reapplied a sensible yet masculine coating of dielectric grease on the exterior of boots and ITS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!RAPED APE status again WOOT!!! THANK GOD!

Next step was a compression test, blown injector seals and valve gunk can cause similar.
weird seeing this guys posts still every now and then when an old post gets bumped. ******* terrorist. How normal this guy seemed until he went crazy.

You're correct. Down in texas they barely made it away from their car before people on site had them.

Well friends, look like I broke a lash adjuster and had 2 rocker arms fall off. One of the rockers fell of the exhaust side of cyl 1 and the other fell off the exhaust side of cyl 2.

I would love to just buy new lash adjusters and put everything back together, do a compression test and see if were good to go. Or should I pull the head, and take a look at the pistons to see if they are cracked or have broken ringlands , thoughts?

Thanks

What causes these to break? Over-rev?

Yes, over-reving causes this issue. Hopefully its not too damaged when I take the head and pistons out today. Could have a cracked piston or broken ringland.

Ok guys, I need some some. For some reason this car still misfires once I get into boost. As you can see in my post this has been a very long and ongoing issue. Today I just finished installing all new lash adjusters, pistons/rings because I cracked the ring lands on cyl 1 and 2. Once everything was put back together the car started up just fine, it also runs great with no cel's unless you go WOT into boost, then it massively misfires and the cel flashes.

The car has these issues on a ZZP tune to so I went back to my Trifecta tune and it still had issues so now its on a stock tune and had the same results. Of course since I had the engine apart I already check everything that causes this. Seals on the injectors, plugs, sensors, valves (cleaned). I data logged the misfires and sent them to Trifecta but other than that I have no clue what to look for next.

I'd redo the compression test and see if you still have low compression on 1 and 2. I wouldn't think broken rockers would cause low compression numbers.

We tested all of them when it was put back together 150PSI across the board. The broken rockers weren't the cause of low compression. The cracked ring lands on cyl 1 and 2 were, that was fixed with new pistons/rings.

Do you have hp tuners? You could log the car until it starts to misfire and see if one of the guys could take a look at it. I wouldn't go into boost unless you had to. It's not tuned for e85 and your running gas is it? Leaning out or too much timing can kill the motor.

It ended up being 1 bad coil pack on cyl 3. I only have had these coil packs for about a year but apparently 1 didnt last that long. Thankfully it's all good to go now but it was extremely confusing to do all that work to replace the pistons only to have a similar but different misfire issue.
