HP/TQ guage reading?

I am curious as to how the computer is getting its HP/TQ info from? How accurate is it compared to "at wheel hp"? I have GM1 and never saw the "claimed" 280hp that the GM1 was to bring.I just added a K&N Typhoon Cold Air today. I know it is comming from the computer but where is it reading it from? I am reading the RPD unit guage.

i would imagine a calculation between tps, maf, and rpm. maybe some other things as well.

probably looks at the boost, rpm, and throttle position and pulls a number out of its ass.

The RPD uses data from a bunch of tables to calculate what it believes the TQ to be at any given point. The calculations probably come from the current airload, spark advance, and afr tables. The RPD can then use the TQ and rpm to calculate what it believes to be the HP. The problem is that once you start tuning you throw off the calculations. I am assuming that the RPD has some kind of linear table that calculates the TQ so the more modifications you do that throw off the linearity of the table the further off its calculations are going to get.

Thank's guys! I guess I need to find someone with the same set up that has a dyno reading or drive 3 hrs to get to a place that does it so I can get an idea of what I am putting out.
