Injen SP7027 installed
Injen SP7027 installed
I just installed my injen intake yesterday. Part # SP7027blk. I have not had one check engine light, no surging, abosolutely nothing out of the ordinary. I also have a horsepower and torque gauge in my car and at WOT, stock, it used to show 260-261 HP somewhere in that area. Now it is showing close to 275 HP. I know of course the learn down will take effect once the ECM learns the extra gain but i posted this to show that the injen intake is producing HP gains. I am very pleased with the product; everything fit perfectly, no guess work or headaches. The hardest part was aligning everything up perfectly but im a perfectionist when it comes to things like this so it took me longer. Im getting ready to add the trifecta tune so none of this will matter but for those of you with questions about an intake on a stock SS/TC i can say that the injen does produce numbers and no check engine lights. The other intakes i cannot vouch for. But i do think with the Injen, the "tuned" intake, is a big advantage. anyone with questions or comments just PM me. I will try to keep everyone posted about the intake before the tune.
About the install; i didnt take enough pics for a full how to write up but here are some tips...
~I took off the passenger side front wheel and removed 1 pushpin and like 6 screws and folded back the plastic inner fender: instead of removing the headlight or the front bumper. (removing the bumper to much work removing the headlight doesnt give you ample space to work)
~i kept the plastic wrapper over the intake to keep it from getting scratched up.
~I also put a rubber strip over the edges of the hole that the intake goes into to keep the edges from scratching my investment.

Looks good!
Injen makes quality products that's for sure. Even though the intake is not throwing a CEL doesn't mean it's not skewing your MAF Trims, make sure to get that tune asap.

This is true. No codes is awsome! Alot of people have gone and had diagnostic checks and the air/fuel trims are going crazy. Let us know what happens after the tune! will be cool to see what just an intake will do on an otherwise stock SS/TC. I'm waiting in hopes of the Stage II. If not.. will make my best choice when the time comes. K&N is working on a SRI. Should prove to be good stuff. Both co's make quality parts.
Can you "feel" a difference before the learndown happens?

I dont know if i can say i "feel" a difference because 15 hp is not that much...but this morning on the way to work i watched the torque gauge and it went up to 285 ft/lbs...i was very impressed. I plan on getting the tune at the end of the month...i will post once i do. Becareful getting a SRI. IMO the stock intake is better than a SRI because it is still pulling air from below the engine bay. SRIs get heat soaked fast...you will on the other hand have better throttle response. Just remember this is my opinion...everyone has one haha.
Thanks for the comments guys!

i havnt checked the temp after the turbo. But your right because the air going into the turbo is going to go through the intercooler anyway so really any intake setup will work as long as you tune it. But i really liked the way Injens CAI looked under the hood...very clean setup and it fit absolutely perfectly. Plus with an aftermarket set up you can really here the turbo!

Im not in it to have the "looks" or to hear and show off to others on how loud it is. Performance.. doing things for that reason is why im in the market for an intake. My future plans would to have some type of vented hood to allow for heated air to excape from the intake. Quality made parts are just going to look good anyway.. the effect they have is the real reason to me on what to buy. Looking forward to your future posts!
well according to my gauges the Injen is def performing (until Learn down steps in)...and its def a quality part they def took their time in the intake.
~The two ends of the intake where the rubber hose coupler connects the lower and upper intake has a rim around the edge so the intake tube doesnt slide out of the coupler.
~the valve stem that the vacuum hose connects to, has a rim around it so that the hose actually clicks in place (it doesnt just slide on).
its small things like this that lets you know someone took their time when they were developing their product.

True, but those things should be a given when shopping from a company that is known for their intakes, such as K&N. Their clientel are of the type that money for a part should be a certain way, and also not throwing codes in normal driving in all 4 seasons.. hot, cold, humid, and cool. Taking the time to make sure in those situational driving experiences.. that the air/fuel ratios and other such trims are not running ragid, but also in a constant peak performance. To me thats the little things that stand out.
In almost every buyer's mind.. thats almsot a given to think that the part they are buying from a reputable dealer should be fine when bolting it on. This is not always the case.

good stuff. is there a way you could post a video on here before the tune? I'm just curious how it sounds with a stock SS/TC. I used to have one on my old SS/SC after I traded it. It sounded really nice and very loud on higher boosts levels and rpms.
The only problem with Injen's intake is that is it a little smaller in diameter than the stock intake at the MAF so is is going to read more air than is actually flowing over the sensor which will cause the engine to run rich until the O2 sensor figures out that it is running rich and tells the ECM to pull a little fuel.
im not sure how to post vids yet. as soon as i do i will post one on here or on youtube...but go to youtube and type in hahn cold air and theres a guy driving with a CAI on there...sounds the same.
The old Injen intakes skewed the MAF readings badly, but I ordered the SP7027 CAI for 08-09 SS because they claimed they had that fixed and had the A/F to prove it.
Seems they invented a new kind of flowmeter to get this right and patented it, and then patented the way they design the intake. Anyway, the CAI came yesterday, and the diameter of the intake necks down just for the short section where the MAF sensor is mounted, so they're certainly up to something.
Also I was glad to see the rubber coupler to the turbo is NOT almost a U-turn like their ad shows, but is a fairly smooth 90-degree elbow, no worse than stock nor the bend in the photo of the rubber ZZP airbox-to-turbo pipe, which I almost bought instead.
Waiting for the Hydro-Shield to get here before I install.
