Just Curious How Bad Is Running An Aftermarket Intake
just curious is it really that bad to run an aftermarket intake on stock tune.. I know it messes with the airfuel and I have been doing research but is it really that terrible? I know all intakes are slightly different such as the dejon sri the hahn, injen, and now the new k&n but it makes the car sound so much better. Just curious on different peoples views..

Long term fuel trims shift, may or may not cause drivability issues. Dejon untuned does, old AEM CAI untuned does from my personal experience. When the fuel trims are out of whack it takes time for the ECU to compensate on every throttle change. While it is hunting for the proper A/F ratio it may misfire, lurch, ect.
The untuned Dejon I had lurched at part throttle pretty bad going in & out of DFCO. (Decel fuel cut off)
The old AEM tuned or untuned had compressure surge at cold start & some drivabilty issues.
When I had the Hahn I was tuned for it and it was fine.

It is not that loud LOL. My exhaust is easily twice as loud and hardly anyone notices unless I am at WOT.

yes, have you been in the k&n thread? when installed properly the trims are actually very good. The stock airbox isnt perfect either remember. This k&n seems to keep better trims than any other intake on a stock tune. Only a couple intakes have actually thrown a cel, I'm not here to name call though.

I had my Hahn for 1800 miles with the GMS1 tune and never had one issue, except boost leak, which is a different story. The Hahn is great for midrange power, but that's about it, plus it does attract a crowd turning their heads. But, I ran it for a good while w/o CEL. Hahn was one of the most stable intakes w/o a tune required at the time and I still love it. Now AEM and K&N are caught up in the market, and you got the other company in TX doing their project testing now with Vararam. It all depends what is more important to you sound, warranty, tune, or no tune. Best intakes right now in the market is the Hahn, AEM, and K&N.
