I started laughing when I read his post and new when I went down more I would find a nice response. I built a golf course in the desert in Idaho and people always say theirs no damn desert in Idaho, then they really flip when I tell then its 8000+ feet above sea level

I think thats the #1 problem when most people have a bad experience with K&N filters.

It filters well just not as much as the paper filters. The filter its self will stop bigger stuff and the oil is added to attract the dust and the smaller elements.

I've used K&N on four cars now. (I've owned more but only four with anything at all other than stock)
First car I'd say I put about 77K miles with it in. No problems. That car only had a water pump issue. Not related or course.
Second car I had one in for about 120K miles. Same.... no issues.
Third car was for only 48K before I sold it. But I had no issues with the engine or really anything actually.
Fourth is the Cobalt..... It's not much but I've had one in since new pretty much. So 8K miles.

Anything small enough to fit through the K&N should be so small it will just pass through or get suspended in the oil which is one of the oils jobs.
K&N CLAIMS that you only need to clean it every 50K I believe and also say that (to a point) the more it collects the better it will filter with minimal flow loss.
I just know that I haven't personally had any issues or know of anyone else who has. Plus with the volume of sales K&N does... if they sold junk someone would have been all over it by now.
Do they filter as well as paper? I'm sure they don't. But is a particle a few microns thick really going to just cause havoc in your engine? Not likely... Never has for me.

Don't worry man I trust em too.. I have ran them in a lot of motors and had excellent results. I think a few people just wanted to start flame wars ..

K&N's the only intake i've trused...running the typhoon cone on mine and love it. my girls dad has done up a few mustangs as well....and he's always trusted K&N.

like Zander916 said...."Plus with the volume of sales K&N does... if they sold junk someone would have been all over it by now. "
So true!

If you spray a shitload of oil on there and you don't wait for it to dry before sticking it in ? Even then, I don't think so. It would have to litterally be dripping of oil for it to go in the engine. Nobody in their right minds would stick a filter in that condition in the airbox. But then again, I've seen weird people do weird things.

I've had K&N filters and I have no complaints. When you keep a car for awhile and you don't pay for oil changes and ****, in the long run it gets cheaper to get one of those than to buy a regular air filter 2 times a year.

I'm sure car manufacturers like GM or Chrysler that happen to sell performance parts that include washable performance air filters would have a hard time explaining to me how it could void my warranty to have a drop in when they sell those themselves.

no dude they can't. It's already been to court and it's called the Magnysson-Moss warranty act. See link.

They can do whatever the hell they want to. If they don't want to work on your car, than you go to court to plead your case because of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
