K&N SRI Question
I bought a used K&N SRI for my LNF a couple weeks ago. I plan on ordering a new AEM dryflow filter for it. Should I worry about the fuel trims being off with this combo or throwing a CEL? I don't plan on getting a tune for awhile yet.
Your going to start running lean not rich. Fuel trims will be out to lunch. That's how mine were before my tune.
It could be rich or lean.. I've seen it swing both ways depending how the filter was positioned. If you had something that would read ltft you could get it pretty close. Mine would stay around -3.

It's cone shaped also.
Air Intake - K&N / AEM Dryflow Replacement Cone Air Filter
As far as the fuel trims go, are they something I should really worry about or will I be fine? What do you need to monitor them?

No, you don't understand what I'm getting at.
The K&N is asymetric, so the way you turn it will change the airflow over your MAF thus changing your trims.
The AEM that you're getting appears to be symetric, thus there should be no difference in orientation.
But yes, you should check to see if what your trims are when you put it on. You just won't be able to turn the filter to adjust them as you would a K&N.

I never used the aem on the kn sri so not sure how much it will be thrown off. I always liked kn filters, you just can't over oil them.
You want the Ltft to be negative and close to 0. You can pick up a cheap scanner from the parts store, gauge or hp tuners to read ltft.

LNF, it'll throw a check engine light just for torquing the lugnuts wrong.
Here's the one I bought for mine. Really fast and there are free APPs on Android to monitor.

I've been wanting to get a OBD II scanner anyhow. If the trims are positive, when should I start worrying about them? Reason I want the AEM, is because its a dryflow. I can just it clean it and thrown it on after it gets dirty. Don't have to worry about oiling it and filming the MAF.
I love mine, way faster than the last one I had. I just leave it plugged in and run Torque on my Android when I want to check things out. I ran a bad MAF wire down with mine so far and was able to tell GM when the car is misfiring.
See below.

I couldn't give you a number on what's safe and I've logged stock cobalts that were +5 or more. It's highly recommended to get a tune but a lot of people don't and have no problems.

Alright, thanks guys. I'll post back in here after I get the filter and get the intake installed. Maybe in the meantime somebody running that filter will chime in with what their trims looked liked.
I wish I could use that scanner with my iPhone.

That one should work with iPhone too, would just have to use a different app. Other option is a PLX Wifi unit, connects via Wifi instead of BT. I've got one I wanna get rid of if you're interested. It didn't play nice with my Android phone.
