LNF engine standalone running, now a question
LNF engine standalone running, now a question
Is it normal that in neutral, no load, I should not be able to hear the whistle of the turbo. I ask because I dont hear anything. I dont have axles yet, so I cant put a load on the engine. I guess I was expecting to hear something.

sometimes with other motors you'll be able to hear the turbo without load, but it is normal that you cannot.
just read your build thread, great work man! got a lot of respect for a guy who truly builds his own car

You guys are quick. So I am referring to these two videos that are also running lnf standalone, which appear that each of the videos, there is not much load on the engine, although I can hear the turbo. The CBM video doesnt even have a tranny on his engine.
Depends on your exhaust system. That guy basically has an open downpipe which is short so you can hear a bit. Honestly the turbo is so small you won't be able to hear much with a full exhaust system that u have. BTW that will be an absolute rocket if you arent familiar with what these motors put out with just a tune alone.

Whistle all comes to play with your exhaust. You can have absolutely no load or anything and still here it... no cat no muffler or anything and it will whistle away. Add a cat resonator or muffler and it goes away. You might here it slightly with certain mufflers or resonators only...but that's if your cat less.
I gotcha, seems that I have a stealth setup.
Here is the video of my setup

if ur exhaust is pretty open, no cat, res, or muffler, then yes u should be able to here tubo whistle. even when ur not in boost the turbine and compresser are still spinning, just not fast enough to build boost. so u will still get that awesome turbo whistle. sounds kinda like when u here a semi truck turbo spool.

u do know the turbo still spins under no load right? as long as the engine is running its spinning, and making the whistle sound. u just cant hear it on most cars cause the exhaust silences it. u should have heard my talon before I put the downpipe and exhaust on,was awesome, all u could hear is turbo. and driving slowly, like 30mph, when u let go of the accelerator it was even louder than when u boosted it. once there exhaust was all bolted on, no more sound. was sad
