LNF, LDK, or LAF

Thinking about doing a build since I've decided to keep the car. I have a 2009 cobalt SS/TC with metal in the oil, so it'll be going in for warranty work, which will probably include a new engine and Turbo, since metal in the oil will ruin both. I've read that all new replacement LNF's are actually LDK's which have a much better cast block and are the euro spec LNF. The other option is to get the engine and sell it to help cover the cost of a LAF swap which is the 2.4 "LNF" out of the equinox. This whole idea is banking on finding a fuel solution so it doesn't die out at 400 or whatever they've made it to now.

Also, what is everyone doing with their transmissions to hold power? Just swapping a zzp rebuild? Cryo? I haven't been paying much attention in the past few months and we all know the search on the forum blows

I've been thinking about it, and I'll probably just run the LDK.

Anyone know anything about the fueling issue?
Will a second set of injectors (in the intake) help?
Is it just a tuning issue, a DI pump issue, etc...
I'd really like to know where the problem lies...!

Still looking for input on the transmission/drivetrain side of it too.

the injectors max out, but 5th injector and upgraded fuel lobe help to a point. and i doubt that they will put in a different engine other than a factory replacement. i dont see why they would put in a different block.

I don't think they would put in a different block. Probably the most you could hope for is a reman LNF. When it comes to warranty work, GM goes the cheapest route factoring in man hours and parts over a swap.

Id be really surprised if they did an engine swap. They practically would try to get you into a cruze before that lol.

It depends on how bad it is and what all is falling apart. And they don't use remanufactured engines for warranty work. The LDK is the lnf replacement because it cost too much to have a assembly line tooled just for LNFs. And I haven't seen any turbo LAFs but from what I understand is a LNF with more displacement.
When it comes down to it, it's the technicians choice as to what to do. And trust me, rebuilding one costs way more than them swapping in a replacement.

As for the fueling if its just the injectors there's a pretty popular place near me in Tampa that rebuilds and can upsize injectors on most applications if I can't find any to fit. I was also thinking of having a custom intake welded up to fit 4 extra injectors to kill 2 birds with one stone (coking intake valves issue).

Just waiting for my engine to pop to see if you guys are right. I hope they do give me the LDK though.

After that, I'll be going with beefed up internals, lots of head work, probably a gt30 series turbo, upsized (or just rebuilt) di injectors, a set of extra injectors in the manifold, etc. Its all pending whenever I sell my ls1 and 240sx shell.

I can't even find a listing for transmissions in zzp's website anymore.

Btw, what rotating assembly are you using? pistons, rods, crank, bearings etc....
I just need to start planning everything out so I can go from there.

just a note, I threw a rod in my 08 cobalt ss a few months ago, they put a remanufactured engine in, not new. They said they only replace with new engines if the car is essentially new anyways. That once its got some miles on it they will only do remanufactured.

Have they got the 6 speed to hold any power? What's going to be the price difference?

Wow. Things must be a little different in your neck of the woods or I've been out of the dealership longer than I remember.

The 6 speed is designed to hold additional power and has been rated higher by GM from the factory than the F35 as well.

The current price was projected to be $3,500. It includes a lot of parts: F40 transmission itself, Fidanza flywheel, 6 puck clutch disc, billet trans mounts, steel shift cables, 4340 chromoly axle, intermediate shaft, and a new shifter assembly.

Edit: Forgot to add that you can source your own F40 tranny and just buy the conversion kit for the rest of the other parts if you want.

im looking into ordering the LDK from zzp to swap into my car. unfortunately i blew my engine and i priced out the fully forged gen 3 short block + head and cams and it was WAY to much so i ordered the head and cams, pistons and k1 rods but now im running into the issue of i need to machine my block but i really dont have time to do all that nor the place. i found the LDK and now im looking at that and paying a shop to do the swap, im just sick of seeing my car sit in my driveway and driving my turn of a civic.
