LNF tensioner maintenance

I guess this is why i will be changing mine every year for good preventative maintenance. $50 is cheap for peace of mind. I believe these are 1 of the culprits for timing chain stretching as well.

I installed a brand new one last year when i upgraded the valve springs. Not even 5k on this.

I'm sorry but if u install the tensioner correctly, there is no way in hell you would need to replace one every year.

Good point. Super heavy springs are known to put a lot of strain on the chain and valvetrain.

But what's considered heavy? ZZPs 82lb springs?

Would the occasional over-rev be a cause for replacement on a LNF (ei 7000rpm stock valve train)

Imo you're pushing your luck. If you have the top end(turbo swap) then upgrading springs would be wise to rev out to 7400rpms to take advantage of the extended powerband length.

Supertech #78's red line @ 7200, rarely go there. Could be just a bad part, looks as if the moon clip broke, cause it cant be found.

The missing part will probably be in your oil pan.

If you're staying on the k04+ then just keep stock valve train and rev to 6800-7000rpms. But if you plan on turbo swapping in the future then upgrading valve springs are a good investment.

I am on the his list too understandable he's super busy I guess? I just need a minor check on the tune nothing major. Doesn't justify driving a total 11 hrs to MI to have this done.

stock springs should not be run passed 6500. even thought theres a lot of people out here they are not designed for that type of load.

if you want to rev out to 7 do valve springs. the k04+ is really pretty much out of steam at anything passed 6700. a built head will benefit anyone if its done properly

also its NOT uncommon for those retainer clips to break and thats probablly what happened to your tensioner. we have had them let loose at speed and ont he track believe or not. we usually put a couple tack welds on them or you can put a small amount of jb weld in a section to help keep the clip in.

The only time I rev out to 7k is 3rd gear at the track so I dont have to shift into 4th, or I have a ******* attack and rev it to 7k in 1st a built head is in the future, havent given much though to it yet. Def interested in the timing information and the trick for the retainer clip
