LNF Traction Question

Hey guys..

So, I finally got to drive an LNF car yesterday.. It was an HHR SS t/c with the auto tranny. Non-Brembo. The one thing I noticed was that upon initial heavy throttle, the thing throttle hopped like a muffuck and was really torque-steery.. Was this just because of the auto fighting with the traction system? It was crazy. The road I was on wasn't the best anyway, but it was nuts. Never noticed that on any SS s/c I've ever driven, let alone any 2.4/2.2.. lol

Just wondering..

Thanks!

traction bars, really stiff rear springs with soft front springs, good tires, motor and trans mounts.

Depending on road conditions and the speed you're going when you mash it, if you just drop the throttle in 2nd there's a good chance it will let go at one point or another in the RPM band. I've gotten into the habit of rolling into it especially if it's a random punch and I have no momentum with me at the time.

I've found that with traction control on it jumps around side to side more when mashing the gas. I have a 08 cobalt ss w/ the lsd. HTH.

Of course it will, you're reaching maximum torque within seconds of going WOT.

I found the comparison in the original post to the 2.2/2.4 incredibly random, you're talking nearly 100ft-lb/tq more on the TC than both of those and the curve is vastly different. The SS/SC delivers power differently; it's more gradual throughout the powerband and continues to increase as engine RPMs increase, a Turbo and Supercharger hit entirely differently. Turbo = all at once low-end tq (hence the wheelspin, no momentum of course the wheels may let go), Supercharger = gradual increase through the powerband hence the "butt dyno" feeling like it pulls harder and harder as you continue to accelerate.

I agree with hallss, throttle control can go a long way, roll into it, let the boost build and as you gain momentum put it to the floor. This will allevaite the Traction Control kicking in UNLESS you hit a slick spot on the road (I had this happen once at 5000ish RPM, scared the hell out of me ) as the power isn't being thrown to the wheels all in one shot.

Nope..the only way to get LSD on the HHR SS is go to the 5spd route.

I think your thinking of a centrifurgal supercharger that's the one that has a gradual increase across the powerband. The old ss uses a roots style which like any positive displacement blower hits full boost almost instantly and is much more instant than a turbo. And then they begin to die up top because the case can flow only so much air.

My car torque steers like crazy with the GMS1. I have the LSD and once the car grabs....hold on. Im a RWD guy so this much power in a FWD car created a small learning curve when gettin into the go pedal.
