Locked steering wheel need help

I'm at work so posting this really quick to sees if anyone can help. Having an intermittent problem where when I start my car the steering wheel stays in the locked position. In order to fix this I have to turn it off and restart it. Problem solved but I don't know why it's doing this. It doesn't happen every time but this is the second time over a two week period. Anyone got any ideas on what's going on here? Thanks in advance.

I think but am not sure that there is a mechanical mechanism between the ignition switch and our steering lock. I would guess that some part of that mechanism is worn out or broken and the fix would be in your steering column.
