not sure on the turbo because its nothing like NA, but I always use magnaflow XL mufflers, they look like a resonator and are straight through but they are thicker (4-8 inches thickness max) and they do a great job of killing sound/rasp.

I doubt it would be much louder than a straight pipe out the back. To the passer by, it may seem quieter, since the sound is being dispersed in many different directions by pointing it at the ground. This is a trick that's used by road racers to get past some track sound requirements.

That being said, it may be much louder inside the car, or cause a crap ton of resonance.

you did post in the LNF Section.....

It would be really loud in and out of the car. and it may not pass a vehicle inspection in your state. Most states require it to exit from under the vehicle behind all of the doors.

If you use a 32" long 6" body magnaflow XL muffler it will not be loud at all.

Those are used by many, big with M3 crowd for getting a good sound with headers/high flow cats and not being loud.

this is a video of my old car a few cars ago actually, 02 mercury sable, i had 2/3 cats removed, no resonator or muffler and straight pipes all the way back, i used a 2.25" magnaflow xl muffler where my 3rd cat was up front with a 4" body. It was SUPER loud, but its SUPER SUPER SUPER loud and shitty sounding before it. I wish i used a 6" because i heard they work much better.

02 Sable Magnaflow Striaght pipes rev - YouTube

in person people saying they thought a G35 with test pipes was coming down the road, others said it sounded like a street bike, i used to get crazy looks all the time, even showed up at a exhaust rev competition at a HIN show at UTI in Norwood/Boston and made a lot of people laugh in surprise.
