Loosing Boost Problem Solved.

I made a post a couple weeks ago about my car losing boost. I was at the track and threw an engine light. After that the car started losing power. Each day the boost went lower and lower eventually maxing out at about 7 PSI at full throttle. I assumed it was a boost leak so I took the bumper cover off and did some inspecting. I used a compressor to check for leaks and was unable to find a leak. I took it to my chevy dealer b/c it was still under warranty. Turned out to be the mass air flow sensor in the intake. They said b/c I had a K@N filter on my Hahn CAI the oil from the filter clogged the sensor. They went ahead and fixed it under warranty, but said they would only do it once. Now it runs great, back up to 22-23 PSI and seems to have more power than ever. So if anyone else experiences similar problems, check the mass air flow sensor.

no sarcasm, I really wouldnt have guess oil from the K&N filter could travel that far and land on the MAF. Did you oil this filter? I have the same filter and its on the K&N intake... which puts the filter directly next to the MAF.. have yet to see this problem.

You can just clean it off the MAF sensor, right? Or does it actually ruin the sensor?

It shouldn't ruin the sensor, most will just clean it with a proper MAF Cleaner.

I find this highly unlikely. I have the Hahn. The MAF is far enough away that it should not be possible. Also, aren't the little MAF wires on the far side, and not the leading edge? I could be wrong about that though.

What codes were actually being thrown?

I have had this problem before on my SVT Contour. The filters from a custom intake compnay came pre-oiled and almost dripping wet. I would get really funky readings and the mass air flow would peg on the voltage. I cleaned the Mass Air flow unit with electronic cleaner and patted the air filter with paper towels till there was no more excess oil and it ran great. Untill the motor blew up at 40,000. Damn Lemons

When I pulled my MAF, I saw no little wires. It just looked like a plastic box with metal on one side.

Look closer. It's the itty bitty wires that need to stay clean, not the big plastic and metal portions.

I could see that making the car lose power or run weird, but losing boost just doesn't seem right. If he had a CEL number or log of the car that would clear it up quick lol. Not happening tho

I had the dealership try to blame my k&n filter for my loss in performance (no boost) a 2 days after I told them that was not the problem but I brought in my stock filter and they replaced the sensor, then still no boost, they found a boost leak...dealerships try too hard to blame the customers when there electronic diagnostics don't find the problem right away.

I had an SVT Contour as well. This is why I don't even have a K&N drop in on my car...true story.
