ya i did alot of checking on other forums and reviews of the stuff and this is exactly what i read from many many people. and alot of people were saying when they put it in, their cams started ticking....due to no lubrication im guessing, then they drained it and went back to mobile 1 and it stopped, unfortunitly for me, i waited to long and the one cam lobe was destroyed and wrecked the rest of the engine with the filings. Id advice everyone to stay away from it. its made for race cars that change their oil after every race, they never changed the formula for street cars, same ****, it will work fine in na cars when u drive nicely, but not for performance cars, if anyone runs it with no issues, consider urself lucky and change it, and maybe take off valve cover and have a look, i did notice all my lash ajusters had scrach marks on them.

hmm, I take it that this means you've come to a new conclusion about the real culprit here huh?

Someone should sue royal purple for not living up to their claims

I run 10-40 also (total seal rings). Brad Penn, though...

That might be how much you put into it... but how often did you check your oil level? I check my oil every other, if not every, gas fill up. The one time I was running RP was the only time I've ever had to add oil in between oil drains. I run Amsoil exclusively in all my cars now.

Honestly not often, but when I drain it I always have the same amount as I put in, I pour it in old jugs and I get the same amount I had in. And when I rp I had it in for a month before I drained it so it was all there as well. By ya I do check from time to time and it's always good.

What is your thought on amsoil? I've been running it for 5k km and I just did my oil change and it was perfect didn't even change shades. I have always ran it in my snowmobile but first time in my car

Late response... but I haven't visited this shithole in a while.

I love Amsoil. If you're only running it for 5,000km, you're wasting it. I run it for 10,000 MILES in my Volkswagen VR6. Drain it, send a sample to Blackstone Labs, and usually get a response back that it still has plenty of life left, filtration looks good, the additive levels are good, and that I can try 13,000 miles the next time if I want. A quality oil filter is absolutely imperative. The nice thing about the Cobalt, of course, is that you can change your oil filter halfway through.

In my Cobalt, I never did 10,000 miles... most I ever did was 7,500 to 8,000 miles. Once I put the built motor in the Cobalt, I'll probably work my way up to 10,000 miles. 5, 7.5, then 10. I highly recommend using Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis to have your oil checked.

How much does that oil testing cost? And what filter would be best for running with the amsoil?

I think the testing is like $25, but it's been a while since I've done one. The AC Delco filters that you can get from CED are perfect. Mann-Filter makes one, as well - part number ML-1015. I've never used Mann on my Cobalt, but that is what I use in both of my Volkswagens and they have performed flawlessly, so I'd expect nothing different out of their Cobalt filter. It's probably what I'll end up using now, actually.

OK i have been thinking about switching to amsoil in all my vehicles because of the long interval between oil changes.

I've run Amsoil on my sportbike for its whole life so far (20,000+ miles) and have been quite impressed by it so far. The oil seems to be quite resilient and doesn't break down that quickly at all.

I hesitate to run something different [than Mobil 1] on my car though, following the Royal Purple catastrophe and since I've got more money tied up in the car, but it's been something I've considered.
