Thanks Bootymac for the parts thread, I bookmarked it.

I've heard good things about Psykosteve, but he's too far away.

I know the GM stage kit is not available for the Cobalt yet, supposedly it will be by the end of the first quarter 2009 which will be right about when I get my SS/TC if I have to order it.

Again, I don't need anything over 300 HP and I don't want to spend big bucks. Thanks.
Yea steve is quite a distance away from me, but if i go that route there is a guy near me that owns HP tuners I thought of getting steve to make me a canned tune and just get the guy with HP tuners to flash it for me....would cost $150 total for tune and flash I do believe. So if you know somebody with HP tuners you would be set just buy a canned tune from steve. Though I will most likely be waiting for the GM stage kit myself. If you want to actually open the exhaust up a little bit just do the muffler delete mod. Take the muffler off and weld the tip back up. The car is not that loud at all like this and its a very cheap mod.

Yeah, exhaust sound is relative. What is loud for one person is not nearly loud enough for another.

I went through this on the GTO, some of the younger guys convinced me to get a SLP catback. Found out later some of these guys were doing the muffler delete on their GTO too. To me, it was insanely loud and not only that, but it droned at highway speed. Changed to a Magnaflow catback and it's much better. I can actually listen to the stereo now. But, some of the guys at our local GTO get togethers claim it's too quiet.

I'm 52 by the way and went through the glasspack and straight pipe era back in the 70's. Had a friend with a bumper sticker that said, "Loud pipes save lives." That was then, this is now. The point is, I'm not doing a muffler delete on a new Cobalt SS. It's cool if you like it, but it's not for me. I like the idea of extra power, but want to be stealthy. A sleeper if you will that will blow away and humilate some unsuspecting ricer Civic.

If your new to the SS/TC do you know that you have to have a tune to go past stock power? Bolt-ons won't do anything without a tune.

Might try looking in the supercharge section instead of this thread.

Stg 3 doesn't include injectors. They are included in stage 2 (and 1 but you have to have 2 first so you can use the hub for the stg 3 pulley) and then stg 3 is a add-on. www.crateenginedepot.com

Glad someone could help Johnny. All these different sections can be confusing to new guys.

Now, back on topic, I have a new possible option. I've been following recent developments at Clear Image that looks promising. Might be the best bang for the buck for intake, charge piping, downpipe, and tune.

I believe best bang for your buck will be the new turbo upgrade BaldTurboFreak's came out with. I believe it's $2500? don't quote me though. That and a tune should put you anywhere between 350-400whp depending on how much boost you run.

Sorry, for me a turbo upgrade will have to wait a couple years, don't want to immediately void the warranty. Besides, I'm only willing to initially spend maybe $1,000 up to $1,500 at most. I'd be plenty happy with "only" 300 WHP.

He is right .. With some plastic parts ( sensors ) and a good tune you will be seeing real close to thoughs numbers .... The stage kit is 290HP and around 350 lbs of torque with a conservative tune to keep your warranty but if you start to add DP Exhaust meth etc etc you should be seeing more like 300 something - Provided they do actually take the nany control off IE learn down feature in the stock tuned ECU .. plus some people are toying around with upgrading the stock turbo and in the right hands I don't see 400 WHP too far off for around 2500 worth or upgrades ... I will be waiting untill the aftermarket scene is a little more stable and we all have some real numbers to base Warranty stage kit vs buying stage kit parts installing and custom tuning yourself .. I would just wait till mid 2009 to get an idea on what to do first..

Do appearance mods first !

Ahhh, alright. I'd say include a tune no matter what because a tune seems to be the best first mod on the 08 and 09 SS's.

if you are buying all your mods together then i say tune after you install them all. That way you can tune to optimize your mods
