Even perfect tunes can knock under certain circumstances, that is why you need to monitor, and if it shows up, get off of it! Most people just assume its the boost. Its a combination of a lot of things.
Knock typically destroys bearings and makes marks on top of the piston. Yes excessive knock can cause a variety of things, but a cracked ringland/piston is from running the tune too lean. Just as "cobaltoverbooster" stated, too much boost for no PE enrichment. Some tuners just ramp up the DAL table and do not realize that they are hitting almost full boost with no extra fuel "lean tune"

No. Unless they found damage, but just a long block doesn't come with a new turbo (usually).

Yeah I was going to get locally tuned by a friend who does HP Tuning... I ended up fronting an extra $500 to get GMS1 instead.. peace of mind until I can afford to blow up my engine and have no warranty...

HOPEFULLY!! it works out for you!! Seeing as ive had to fight for every single warranty issue with my cobalt I kinda hope you get yours sorted out.

I can understand both sides. Myself I went back to stock (all parts and tune) then brought my car to the dealer for my coolant disappearing issue. 2 months later they tell me there denying my warranty and to come get the car there not touching it because they found it on this forum with the list of mods and tune. I knew I would have trouble before i went to the dealer which is why i removed my parts. From day 1 when it was towed there i told them, I believe I have the Porous block issue. They immediately told me they have never heard of it. blah blah. 4 months later car was returned to me with a warrantied motor and more sorrys then i can count . My intentions were that if it was proven anything ive done caused the problems, I would deal with it myself. But id fight the **** out of it if i know its something else. They refused to even tear the motor down to check to see if it was a porous issue which is why i continued to fight it with the help of a few members on here as well.

bottom line make sure your tuner has good dyno numbers and a shitload of tunes under his belt. i will list no names as i know at least 6 who are willing to help anyone and they all share my equal respect. find them they are well known amongst lnf owners.
+1 on the early ramping of DAL and "delayed" PE being suspect. I don't foresee it destroying motors by itself but it can definitely contribute.
