My ltft & stft

So yesterday I finally got my elm 327 Bluetooth working with my android phone and torque pro. I took my kn sri off a week ago to clean the filter over the course of a few days. I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for a few hours. I'm currently 100% stock. Other then gms1 . Stock air box and stock filter even. What surprised me is my stft like most other people seems to bounce between -6 and +4 ish. And my ltft is a steady -9.2 ... or was it +9.2... lol.... either way it was 9.2 something.... I will double check. The car works great really. I found the HP tab kinda cool. According to torque my car hits 268 HP at 5800 rpm. Which is what I would expect for a gms1 only car. Any thoughts on the program In general and my fuel trims...

which way is your K&N filter oriented? loosen it, turn it. drive a little, watch your trims. Adjust until you get better trims. For mine the metal strip has to be about 11:00. Each one is slightly different.

By the way, the PID for "ambiet temp" in torque is cabin temp, not ambient. And the one for "IAT2" is IAT. I'll get you the IAT2 pid in a bit.

Been so long since I used it. I have 2 in my notes for IAT2. Only one works but I can't remember which of the two, so here you go.

PID 221538 unit degreeC max/min 100/0.0 equation A-40

or

PID 222006 unit degree C max/min 200.0/-20.0 equation A-40

I'm pretty sure the second one is the right one.

My k&n is off at the moment. I'm running the stock air box. Those fuel trims are from a totally stick car.

do you have a K&N filter in the stock air box?

i thought someone did the same thing and had similar fuel trims.

with my K&N on my car i only see a 2.9 at most for a LTFT

I don't have a way of monitoring my fuel trims but I'll throw this out there since it seems related - I have a K&N drop-in filter I use on occaision and I've also used an aftermarket "elbow" on the factory airbox. 95% of the time I run a completely stock intake mainly to avoid issues with the GM tune. Recently the car developed a slight hesitation so I cleaned MAF/MAP/T-MAP and it didn't help. I discovered that I had forgot to replace the K&N with the stock filter and had been running it for a few months. I replaced it; reset the computer and not only did the hesitation go away but my mileage which had been hovering around 27 +/- immediately went to 30 +/- and has stayed there. I'm assuming it had something to do with the ltft's.

You'll have to bare with me sox ! Cause I have no idea what any of the means. OI'm just begining to learn in torwue and about the tunig type side of cars. Do I enter that data you gave in torque somewhere ? And also is there a way to measure knock at all in torque ? If so I sisn't see it ? I also really want to know what a lnf should run for fuel trims for both stft and ltft that has a stock air box with the stock filter and gms1 ?

go into Settings -> Manage extra PIDs/Sensors, then Add Predefined List, and add Pontiac / GM /Opel / Vauxhaul. That will get most of the PIDs that Cobalts use.

Then go back into Settings -> Manage extra PIDs/Sensors, and add custom PID. Click ok, then you can add in the IAT2 PID that I posted above. Your new custom PID, whatever you named it, will appear at the bottom of the list of custom PIDs. I named it myiat2 so I know which it is. You can name it iat2, spank, frank, or spot. It doesn't matter.

Now you can add a new digital readout or analog gauge to one of your dashboards using the custom PID.

Yes, one of the sensors is KR.

From what I have read they only make torque for the android. Apparently the way apple writes there Bluetooth programing doesn't work well at all with the obd2 Bluetooth adapters. The IPhone won't even see them. Its a great app really. It shows everything your car is doing. Shows check engine lights and will let you turn them Off also.

Probably because apple won't authorize it for sale in the app store

Torque actually has a PID called "IAT2 Alternate" that uses your equation for IAT2. I believe it's part of the GM predefined list now. I hadn't used it in quite a while and was pleasantly surprised to see KR and other items now available.

I didn't know they added it to the add on pid package but I'm glad they did. We went though a lot of work to get that.

Now if they would get an outside air temp one that works.....

The only thing that is driving me nuts. Is that the program allows you to displaty so much information. I can't fit it all on one screen. Unless I use the tiny boxes. But then I can barely reada it at a fast glance while driving. So I had to make two full screens with all the info I want in the small boxes. Much easier to see at a glance.

Something to keep in mind is that if you're using an ELM reader, it most likely updates 10-15 PID's per second. That number is divided by the number of PID's you're currently reading, so if you have 10 graphs on one screen, your info may not be updating as often as you'd like. No big deal for speed, gas, whatever. But if you're monitoring STFT, KR, AFR...maybe give those a dedicated screen or limit to 2 or 3 graphs max. Or drop 100 bucks and get a really good reader.

This is especially noticeable if you do any data logging...set your update to .25 seconds and run 10 different parameters and see how many rows of identical data you get.

Idk.... I have tries that.. and surprisingly it doesn't seem to lag to much really. The tab for knock I have on its own screen all alone. And thankfully I have absolutely no knock at WOT. But I get .7 degrees of knock at just over half throttle for a split second. And then it goes right back to 0. Im pretty happy with that when I have virtually zero knock. And there is a setting in torque to speed up its response time. Which I think also depends habit on your phone. My phone is a quad core . So no slow down there on bits part.. the phone does make a big difference also fromwhat iI have read.

Even slower phones are capable of processing hundreds of PID updates per second. I used this back when I had a Galaxy S (no number after the S) and it's the same now as it was then. The little green dot in each graph shows how it's updating. If it is fading or flashing a bit, your refresh rate could be better. If it's always green, you should be good.

Also worth noting, a little KR at partial throttle is harmless. Pretty much every modern car on earth has it in stock set up.
