Need a new turbo

I took my car in today and the mechanic told me that all the white smoke coming out the exhaust is most likely because of a bad turbo seal. I dont have the money for a full turbo swap right now but I have been looking at the upgraded K04 since its a direct replacement. I either have to get a new turbo or just rebuild the one I have. Chevy said they wont cover it soIm not sure what to do at this point. Any help or suggestions would be awesome.

If it's a GM stage kit it should maintain the warranty. If not, GM is a bullshit company.

this is what i was thinking. Unless you are modded heavily or tuned, then they should cover it in most cases?

GM said they would have to call in a engineer to see my car since they don't rebuild turbos and since I have full boltons that they wouldn't cover it.

Why you wouldn't put your car back to stock for an issue like smoke billowing out the back of your car, I don't know...

Either way I don't know what, "Full bolt-on's," means, but if you have intake, downpipe, exhaust, and tune, then I can sure see why they won't cover it.

take the tune off and they have to cover it unless they can prove ur charge pipe and intake blew the seal. Gm is stupid, they sell u a car, with shitty plasic chargepipe and crap, that blows up under their own gms1 tune, and when u fix the problem right and put metal piping in there they think they can void ur warrenty. thats bs. for the tune yes i agree with them, but not for bolt ons, come on man

WTF does this have to do with the topic here? He has a tune which could have been the cause of the turbo failure, it's not a stretch. If they tried to blame a tune on his headlights not working, then we would have a problem....

OP: I understand the College thing, but still it would have been worth it.... It sucks, you're in a tough position, but in this case it's the pay to play argument. I'm not one to throw that term around either, as I fought for the guy who didn't get a split intercooler replaced under warranty. Anyways it sucks, but I would try to at least get an upgraded turbo since you have to buy one anyways...

I would get your head gasket checked out. I'm almost certain that if it was the turbo seal, you would have alot of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust due to oil coming from the turbo.

A guy I know who had a blown turbo seal, his car puffed blue smoke like a freight train. Lol

bnr gt2860 (stg1) is a Bolton turbo upgrade minus putting on a new coolant line.

Yea thats what I was thinking, white is generally coolant (it will also smell sugary sweet), blue is oil, black is fuel not burning.

Quick head gasket check... on a COLD start pop the hood and grab your radiator return hose that runs to the top of the radiator from your engine. It should have no pressure in it becuase there should be nothing in it yet. If it feels like it has been pressurized, then there is a good chance there is a head gasket problem becuase your cylinders are presssurizing your coolant passages.

Okay thanks ill try that tomorrow.

Would there be any symptoms that I would be able to notice from either a blown head gasket or a blown turbo seal?

LOL. Rage more bro. Even without knowing about the tune, which the OP has not confirmed either way, from GM's point of view, voiding a warranty on the Turbo for having an intake and downpipe is more then justified. I too hate jackasses like yourself that just want to run around with a rod up their rectum crying victim every time GM does something they don't agree with. When I bought my car I had to sign another document that stated in no uncertain terms that any modifications to the car could invalidate my warranty. Not sure if that was just my dealership or if it was a GM thing, but they told me it was a GM thing. I signed it and didn't care because I know the Magnuson Moss Act will cover me if they try to void parts of the warranty unjustly. Get a clue before you try to start ****.

K04 smoking? Same issue with us Mazda's, and same issue when trying to get the dealer to cover it. PITA. If they won't cover it, you may be able to find someone selling a K04 in good condition on the Mazda forums for $100 - $200 dollars if you can't find one here. Beats spending $1000 - $1200 at the dealer.

Oh, you're probably right. That may be why I have yet to see us crossing over to eachother's forums looking for replacement turbos.
