New Exhaust too loud, how to fix w/out losing power

Hey guys, well I just got my Treadstone cat-back exhaust put on and it is very loud and raspy. I w?ant to tone it down just some and eliminate some of the rasp but I dont want to sacrifice much power gains I would see from it after I get re-tuned. The exhaust is straight piped, no resonator or muffler, I have the Hahn catted downpipe.

So my biggest question is this, will adding a resonator and muffler that would normally come with this exhaust if you chose that option reduce the power gains much from what I would see if I got it tuned and just left it as is. If ill still see some performance gains from the exhaust by adding the resonator and muffler then im for sure doing that because it is too loud.

I doubt u would lose more than a few hp if anything. Fyi, u would see much better gains if u went catless.

It's the dp that nets you the bigger gains.

You're not gonna feel or see any real gains with a catback system - It's mostly for sound. 5whp gains on average.

Adding a resonator, muffler or both really won't hurt anything. Find the combination that works best for you - either just a resonator, just the muffler or both.

Yeah I knew catless will get me more gains, I bought that before I knew how far I really wanted to go with the car. Ill be trying to trade it or sell it in the future, but for now I want to quiet this exhaust, get re-tuned, sportline springs, ky clutch, zzp intercooler, then I will be trading or selling for catless exhaust. But for now was just curious how to get the best deep aggressive tone out of the exhaust without it sounding ricey and obnoxious.

What personally worked well for me was just adding a small resonator in place of a muffler and that took care of most of the rasp I had when I was just straight pipe. My resonator is about as small as you can possibly get and it still cut down the rasp quite a bit (12"x4" body). The bigger the resonator, the more noise and rasp it will remove from the exhasut tone plus you will never notice or feel a power loss from just adding a resonator to the system to begin with.. resonators don't restrict flow but they can add some mild turbulance to the exhaust flow.... but again.... you will never feel it

A good resonator and a dynomax super turbo muffler and you'll be

wait, that was for my SC but should work even better on a TC as SC's are way louder

I think Im going to just order the resonator from treadstone then go up the street and get a Magnaflow muffler from the local muffler shop and have them put it all on. Hopefully it wont quiet it down too much. I wanted the mpxexhaust tone, but found this exhaust for a deal and bought it but didnt expect it to be this loud and raspy.

idk.. i had a zzp 2.5 dp and i hated the sound so much i went back to stock dp. didn't notice a difference either way, just sound.

to me , its worth it when it comes to exhaust to sacrifice some power if it makes it sound that much better

That's definitely a matter of opinion I would have to say. Plus you really can't compare the sound of a ss/sc to that of the ss/tc. Completely different animals when it comes to exhaust tone.

3" catless dp on a ss/tc = ****
2.5" catless dp on a ss/sc = rasp hell!!

This isn't the treadstone setup, but this is my car with a full 3" turbo-back exhaust I had recorded a while back shortly after I installed it.

3" ZZP catless dp, full 3" straight pipe into a small 12"x4" body resonator in place of a muffler (I stupidly labeled it as a 10"x4" in the video).

It's not the greatest of vids bit it will at least give you an idea of what just a small simple resonator can do to tone down any rasp and mellow out the tone a bit. The bigger the resonator the more it will tone things down keep in mind.

Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator on the downpipe, the resonator is straight throw restriction-free style resonator.

I would steer away from the Dynomax Super Turbo flow mufflers, they are chambered mufflers and will cause back pressure and restriction.

You can also swap out a good portion of mid-pipe for a magnaflow barrel style resonator as they are straight through as well. Tha'ts what I have on mine and have not noticed any loss in performance.

most complete straight pipe exhaust makes our car sound like a tractor, but with that resonator it sounds decent...i agree with Vibrant for brand
I have a catted downpipe and a muffler delete on my stock exhaust with the stock resonator, and it sounds pretty good..the best sounding one is the 3" MPX exhaust with muffler delete and catted downpipe...goodluck op
