It's just a vent in the hood basically. Doesn't mate up with the k&n intake.
Looking at trying to get RD to make us one, if there was enough interest.

Huh, I thought more then 3 people would have been interested in a hood that works with our K&N air filter for the LNF... and looks decent.

Too far back. I've seen pics of the underside, and it is worthless. Hell, it is probably heavier than stock too.
The hood is a terrible place to put a scoop. It's a low pressure zone. It's great for vents.

This is all theory now, and hoping ED will be able ot do up something nice for us there.
It'll be carbon fiber, so lighter.

Although I don't currently on a Cobalt SS/TC right now, some time at the beginning of spring I plan on picking me up a Sedan Cobalt SS/TC version and sure would be interested if they were available.

It's fugly, and not functional. It doesn't RAM air, it makes it harder to get air if the scoop stays located like that.
Why would I want a fugly hood that makes my engine work harder?
Put the scoop where it belongs and we can talk about it. Like it is? No way.

I've got a water resistant cover for mine on order from K&N
I'd hope any water would drip off after coming through the track, but I don't know.
Figured something like this must have been worked out with other ram hoods.
small hole on the way to the intake for the water to drain out perhaps?

how in the world does a ram air hood improve performance on a forced induction car? i thought the idea was for the increased wind velocity to force more air into the intake, but with a turbo charger, you're already forcing in as much air as the turbo is allowed to push in?
what affect on a turbo would this have if any? faster spool? i don't get it..

Faster since it's available right there.
Id like a louvered hood design, right above the K&N, i plan to do this to my stock hood in the future when im not sure poor =)
I dont have a k&N, but I imagine that + louvered hood = mad turbo noise.

But it's not right there. It's in a low pressure area, there is LESS air. It's not just nonfuctional, but if it were sealed to the K&N airbox in someway it would actually hurt performance.
If it isn't sealed at all then it isn't harmful in anyway, it's just fugly.
Anyway, since I'm not gonna buy it, I'll just shut up move on.
That is not true, it could be functional if they fixed the scoop because it brings a continuous flow of cold air to the intake, and as a result, it decreases temperatures. Just because it is not sealed to the airbox doesn't mean it isn't effective. You have to keep in mind that the K&N SRI has a hard time getting cold air because it is in the engine compartment, what limited air that goes to it is from the snorcle from the air box, but that is limited at best.
I researched these hoods up alot back in may before I got mine. The RK sport one does not have any holes to drain water, so if it rained it will most likely be getting into the intake.
There are only 2 hoods that have a scoop for ram air that are functional for our car at the moment. The Suncoast Creations Ram Air Hood, and the RK Sport. Apparently from reading this thread though the only one that is designed to work with a K&N SRI is the Suncoast Creations Ram Air Hood. Unfortunately, this hood only comes in fiberglass. There is a Carbon Fiber verison of it made in toronto canada from some company, but it is made for the LSJ engine, not the LNF, so the scoop goes to the wrong side of the engine for the intake, as a result, it is useless for us.
So, back in may I drove up to bradenton florida and had suncoast creations fit the hood to our car with the K&N intake on it, they made it, and I have it on my car now. Alot of people hate the design of it (I like it), but it does work very well. My intake temperatures with the hood and K&N intake dropped to atmospheric temperatures with the stock charge piping, and this is very helpful with the K&N because it is located in the engine bay, so it has a hard time getting cold air. Many people argue that this does not help the car out alot, or that the temperature decrease does not matter, but I felt an increase in power when I got the hood on mine. Essentially it makes the best intake possible for our car, an SRI so less piping / better sound, with the benefits of giving the car a continuous flow of cold air.
Personally, I do like the look of the RK sport hood better, but my concern was rain as mine is a DD. If what people are saying in this thread are right, the scoop might not be too helpful getting air to the car due to its position. It also has no way of draining rain, and does not work with the K&N. The Suncoast one has water baffles so no rain water gets into the intake, and I would know by now I've driven through really heavy rain. Weight wise it is a little lighter than the original hood, not sure by how much but it is noticeably lighter. There are also 2 heat extractors in the back and it works with the K&N. Here are a few pics:

Not trying to discourage from making another ram air hood, but if the RK sport scoop is in the wrong area, will not fit the K&N, and has no way of draining water this hood would be horrible unless it is not for a DD. I don't think a company will want to take the time to redesign it to make it work with the K&N, fix the scoop, and make a way for it to drain rain. Your best option would be to get someone to make a carbon fiber version of the suncoast creations version that works with the K&N, that way the only thing that would be redone is it being done in carbon fiber instead of fiber glass.
