Smile oil catch can

Oil catch can.

I was wondering if anyone has installed one of these in the TC SS. Would be plumbed between, air intake and valve cover. I have heard that intake valves get super gummed up on DI engines and Turbo DI is even worse due to increased heat. If anyone knows more on this issue, please help. Any installs, pictures and products used would be great too!!

I have read that they head is well baffled, and a catch can is not really necessary. IDK for sure though.

Not on the lnf, some of the audi/vw's suffer from this though.
If you're going to install a catch can the steel braided hose that's connected to the side of the turbo spews out oil, that's the one you have to run to the catch can.

Take off the intake and run your finger near the compressor wheel, odd's are there's going to be oil there.

Not sure why it would be necessary, if a very cheap item could make even the slightest difference in reliability every manufacturer would put them on.

Also, as to DI gumming up intake valves, the reason why you normally get a black coating on the intake/TB is because with non-DI the fuel evaporates and makes that coating, DI is supposed to severely cut down on that.

I saw these photos of this DI Porsche engine and the more research I do the more I find that ALL DI engines have this issue. In these pictures they claim engine has 80K for mileage.

I used to work for GM and would look at torn down test engines for fun quite a bit and never noticed any of the DI engines having anything like that.

edit: but doing some quite research I am seeing a lot of talk about it, interesting

I looked into my valves also, no sludge on them. VW/audi/porsche are doing something wrong, maybe they should copy the americans for a change.

the thing that worries me is that over time, oil build up on the turbos compressor side could throw the balance off and wear parts and bearings...

That is exactly what I am looking for. Do you know where I would be able to purchase the hoses shown in picture? Any info would be great!!!

I got the hose from napa, its 5/16" fuel line hose. I also used a 5/16" barb fitting that connects the hose and the steel braided line, since the barb fitting is a bit loose in the steel braided line i put some electrical tape on it to fatten it up for a tight seal.
The catch can is from ebay, there's plenty of different ones for cheap.

If you want a baffled catch can you can find them between $100 and $200, or stick a sponge/mesh inside the cheap one to basically do the same thing.
The cheap one will still collect majority of oil, its better than nothing.

Not really needed as the valve cover is well baffled inside almost no oil is sucked into the intake. I put a homemade catch can on my car just to see the results and after a full 100 miles of relatively hard driving no visable oil in the catch can. My GTO used to fill it up every 1000 miles or so.
