Oiled vs Not (K&N v. AEM)

Im getting ready to order my Dejon SRI, and Im wondering what do you guys think is better.... the K&N oiled filter or the AEM dryflow filter? I have always used K&N, but I had heard some people on here saying they thought it would be better to go with a dry filter to avoid getting oil in the turbo...? what do you guys think?

Looking into the AEM a little more, the dry flow sounds pretty good. It seems like its a lot easier to maintain. Do you guys think it filters as well as the oiled filters though?

Thanks for the advice

Everyone will say something different.

I have never had bad affects from a K&N on 3 cars. So that's what I use.

That's logging about 150k miles

Many have done the K&N drop in on the SS/TC and haven't thrown a CEL. It's all dependent on the ECU and how picky it is.

doesn't it have to do with the MAF sensor getting oil on it from the filter?

Yes. Get the AEM I love how easy they are to clean, how long they stay clean and how well they filter.

Does it make sense to be getting the intake without a tune? The whole ECM capping you at 260/260 confuses me a little. haha

Yeah don't waste your money on an intake unless your future plans include a tune. Otherwise all you are doing is spooling a little faster.

I do plan on a tune at some point. Im just waiting to see what GM offers...if its nothing good Im going to go with Trifecta. So either way I will tune at some point. Im just wondering if I shouldnt be doing the intake until after I tune.

The car will run more efficiently. Hece it will boost less to make the same amout or slightly more power than stock. What the ECM does is it measures the incoming airmass and if it exceeding the desired airloads the ECM has programmed into it. It will lower the boost pressure to keep the stock DALs. Get an intake and your other mods then get it custom dynotuned.

I had the AEM dryflow on both cobalt SS/SCs. One would throw a CEL and the other wouldn't. Is seems that my 2007 is pickier than the 2006. Both are GM stage II.

Oil filter...... What does a oiled air intake filter have to do with an oil filter???????

But, I have a K&N Drop-In Air Filter & I LOVE it. It's a quality product. I really don't have any answer on which filter you should buy.

oil dosnt come off the filter if its oiled right. and even if it dose come off it wont hurt the maf.
my k&n has been on the car for almost 40K miles and i have had no problems, the only cel i have is due to lack of cat lol.

good info>>> http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massair.htm.

Yah...I mean like I said Ive always used K&N, but with the turbo I wasnt sure if an oiled filter would be a bad idea. I think I may go with the AEM though just because of the easier maintenance.

he was simply giving you information on the AEM dryflow filter .... No need to cry about whether it's an LNF section or LSJ section. The AEM dryflow filter for the cobalt first came out on the SS/SC C.A.I., so you should listen up to the LSJ guys, because we have experience with the AEM dryflow filters. The AEM dryflow is a great filter, much easier to clean. Also, like many have said the K&N will not ruin a mass air flow sensor, unless it is oiled wrong. Both filters are great, and should give the same amount of performance. It's all up to what you like.

it only caps the peak hp, doesnt let u got over 260/260, doesnt mean it wont let u pick up more hp threw the rest of the rpm range. for inctance if u have 200whp at 4000rpm, with the intake u will get 210 at 4000 rpm. u still gain, u just wont go over 260/260 when u hit ur peak hp.
