I was going to change my water pump because my car was overheating. When I felt the the chain it was loose so i took the timing chain cover off, and the tensioner was what needed replaced. The big problem came when I discovered that everything in the engine reaked of gas. The intake, and charge pipe has what I would believe to be an excessive amount of oil in them. I'm thinking it is most likely blow by . I am going to do a compression test when i get it all put back together. Is there anything else that might be causing those two issues together like that?

Could be a bad PCV, but the compression test will tell you for sure

everything smells like gas? could also be a leaking hpfp or running rich for some reason, what do you consider a lot of blowby.

Don't know what u call excessive pick would be nice, but our cars need the Powell oil separator, not a catch can, those don't work. Timing chain will be a little loose when engine isn't running , the tensioner tensions when oil is pumping through it.
