I did the oil change in my 335i, myself. **** the god damn maintenance plans they offer. Each oil change was about $80 for AMSOIL(the best) including Filter. I didn't have a problem selling the thing either and I didn't lease the bitch, paid 24k of the 47k it cost me out the door. Sold it for 41K for the 2 years I had it.

Another thing, don't be as vague when you say "If you think you can drive a BMW on a Budget then you're a genetic deficient". Really? What about an E30 or E36 or a 2002? You could run those puppies for less than a cobalt. Your talking about BMW's luxury **** and 7 series or M6 Coupe territory. Dude we're talking about the 3 series man, its not hard to get one and if you look hard and WORK hard you can get one for a great price. Not that your going to cause you choose to be cheap.
Oil changes are cheap no matter what you drive. Brakes, alternators, shocks etc. are more expensive to replace on a BMW than on a Cobalt. It's a fact. I don't own a BMW, but several of my neighbors have. Four figures to change an alternator is retarded. That's cool that you're a big BMW fanboy but financially trading in a GM economy car to buy some used Bavarian makes no sense.

BMW fanboy bahahahaha, you got to be kidding me right, I'm going to see if I can put that in my sig. Just cause I had one doesn't mean I was a fan. I sold it after a 2 yr and I don't know how many times on this forum I have expressed that my Sky Redline is a much more exciting car.

Again, vague as **** with saying just "BMW". So a E30's or 2002 suspension is more expensive than a Cobalt? Can you please not repeat your mistake and mention a modern BMW like the 3 series we're talking about in this thread? Thanks

Another thought, do it yourself!

Why'd you get rid of it?

I did not make a mistake. The guy is asking about a 2008 BMW, not an E36 or some other 500,000 year old model. Everything I posted was factual and correct. You must not be reading correctly, making you the one with the mistakes.

500,000 year old model? Factual??? Right!

I got bored with it and the gas mileage was horrible and not practical.

Fact of the matter is e30's and 2002's are ******* gay. unless your talking 2002ti's from the 70's.

Regardless, it will cost more to maintain, you didn't maintain your bmw, you owned it for two years and traded it off, it WILL cost more for anything on a bmw vs any gm vehicle. Nuff said

sounds pretty awesome with muffler delete and the dual cone filters though...lol

If you need more space a 3 series is a stupid choice. It's a compact just like a cobalt.

I'm just going to throw this out there now but did you happen to compare all the issues that the cobalt's have? lol. They keep people stranded. Won't let them remove there key, limp mode 24/7, sensors getting wet, turbos going out. Interior sucks *****. Transmissions suck at 400 whp. You also have to compare the comments people make on there, what are they doing with the car? where do they live? Majority of issues that happen on cars are operator error.

I've owned an E30 M3, and two other German cars. I'm done with them. Anyone that thinks the maintenance is low cost or even serviceable at home w/o special tools is fooling themselves. Leasing is definitely a good option on them.

The Cobalt is dead nuts reliable. Most people that break things on the Cobalt either don't know what they're doing, or broke it themselves.

I have experienced none of those. lol. You cant compare a modded car to the stock drivability. Theres too many variables

obviously the car im looking at is modded as well, and 4 door, not 2..thats the only reason for consideration, is having a sporty, more luxury, sedan. If it wasnt all that, then there would be no reason to let go of my car.

Might get flame for this, but eh what the hell

Have you considered EVO/STi? both have four doors and are pretty fast/can be modded for the speed.

Yeah, of course, but to me, those cars are not as good as what i have other than awd, so (it would be a downgrade in my opinion)...the car i really considered was a 2009 g8 gt, but the gas mileage in those are horrible.

well, they may be slower than you are now. but you would have AWD/4 doors and you could make it as fast. but I understand

I definitely don't like the interior of the cobalt, didn't buy it for that either. I like the interior of the new evo's and the new sti's.

Never throught I would see that as a complaint on a Cobalt.

Price of gas keeps me out of a truck right now. I loved mine, but just couldn't justify spending that much on gas when I rarely used it as a truck.

A lot of negativity towards the BMW. I've owned a GM product ever since 1980. Each car has had some inherent issue such as differential problems, intake manifold gaskets, cam issues, etc, etc. During the time in our lives when we could afford two vehicles one was a GM and one was usually a Toyota. Wife's preference at that time.
In 2006, after shopping for a new vehicle, we plunged into the purchase of a 2006 BMW X3. We ordered and had the vehicle built with the color and options we wanted. The X3 currently has 130k on the odometer. Other than brakes, spark plugs, a batterty, preventive maintenance, and tires, the BMW has been flawless. We have had no issues to speak of. DIY brake job (front and rear) cost about $400 in parts. However, they last almost 100k miles. Oil changes are not that much more expensive than my Cobalt. There is virtually no rattles or squeeks.
Don't get me wrong, I love my SS/SC. I enjoy it as my daily driver and surprises quite a few people. However, the overall engineering cannot match that of the BMW. Do they have issues. Sure they do. Most of the expense of owning a BMW lies with your high end //M cars. I am so pleased at the quality and reliabilty of our X3 that I purchased an M6 for my weekend toy versus a Z06.
You have to decide what it is you want from a vehicle. The 3 series is an all around great car. It may not be the fastest but it will provide the comfort, quality, performance and enjoyment you demand of a car. Hell, there are cars that can spank my M6 but they are few when compared to the masses.
Off my soapbox. You have to do what is right by your family (assuming this is why you are looking for 4 doors) financially but at the same token get something that you can enjoy and will last. There is always the future. Work your way into the asphalt burner that decimates all (well almost all and dedicated to ass kicking) while being the proud owner of a family sedan that is paid for with title in hand.
