Mine used to Knock too on the stock tune on 93 octane I would be willing to bet a WOT the Timing advance would be 2* on 87 octane. Big HP loss there.

take this in the least smart assholeish way as you can (seriously)

your question is like asking if its okay to run conventional oil in the car even though it clearly states synthetic. if you skimp on the gas eventually your going to have problems. almost like cheap insurance.

and the insurance is only 2-3 bucks a tank. If you can afford a 20-22k car you can afford that.

I like threads like these. most everybody got along, few people harshly criticized. the really smart kids went on their smart kid tangents, and the op was answered. everybody was new at some point. good job gentlemen. (and girls?)

the day I took my car home from the dealership, I specifically told them that once the detailing guys were finished their thing, that I absolutely DID NOT want them to fill the tank if they were going to use the shitty regular gas they have on site (a large tank where they put the extra gas they siphon from trade in's, write off's ect) but of corse, they didn't listen to me! I was more than willing to pay for the first tank myself, rather than them put that swamp water in there! I was furious! The car started and idled just fine, and ran normally untill I got on the highway and gave the gas a little romp. it pulled just fine up till about 4K RPM and then just totally crapped out! (I know it was new so it wasn't a WOT pull)

Long story short, I had to drive through that whole tank on a BRAND NEW TURBO ENGINE, having it basically limited to 4k rpm. could almost hear the engine crying!
I LOVE my car, yeah its a cobalt, but its still my favorite posession! so even if it seemed to run fine on regular gas which it doesn't!!!! I would still run premium just because I can!

If you went out and bought an ss wouldn't you want to run premium, Buying an ss you were looking for a performance vehicle so why wouldn't you put higher grade fuel in to achieve all possible performance
