pulling motor?
pulling motor?
does anyone know of anyone who has pulled an LNF from the top rather than dropping in from the bottom. does anyone know how hard that would be. Because i have to swap my motor and i dont have access to a lift.
I believe you can drop it out the bottom without a lift.
you can leave the trans in and pull it, just everything on the passenger side has to be removed (harmonic balancer ect....) its still no fun but it does have enough space to pull it that way
i pulled mine and dropped it out the bottom, it was all in one piece pretty much, i got a dolley from harbor freight for like 20$. set the oil pan on the dolley, and jacked up the car as high as i can and it rolled out
I've done two motor swaps in my driveway, and a 3rd one tomorrow. It's not bad to pull it from the bottom on the ground, just put the car way up on stands and lower it down with a hoist. I helped ralli through it the first time he did it. Lemme know, i'll give advice if needed.
its really not bad, i cant speak for the cobalt but i pulled a v6 out of a infinti just buy reomoving the hood and other items, kept a jack under the tranny and pulled the motor right out, with only 1inch of play to work with lol

High enough to get the motor under the pass side frame rail. There's a big cutout on that side that just so happens to be about the size of a valve cover
I'd say, about 3 feet of air under the front lip should do the trick. You can always jack the car up a little more once the motor is on the ground to get the clearance.
