Q about intake and tunes

My buddy has an LNF and im not 100% sure how everything works with this DI stuff. If he orders a tune from Trifecta for a stock car, the adds an intake later, does he need to re-tune or no?
I dont think he does, but I have been wrong before ...and id feel better double checking for him.
Thanks guys.

I believe so... He may have problems with his fuel trims and the car will be jerky and sluggish while crusing...

get charge piping and downpipe first and then tune, intake can come whenever, however it is best to do your boltons first

Intakes can skew MAF readings. The MAF curve really needs to be retuned after adding an aftermarket intake on pretty much any vehicle.

not really, i did trifecta tune and then all bolt ons and just now im retuning it... the car was runing perfect without a retune but i want to get more power out of my **** u know... u dont really need to retune for every aftermarket part u put on... the ECU will "adapt" to it itself.... dont worry about it

I talked to Dan from CIA and he said that the only part you should have is the intake before the tune because they make special adjustments for it. Adding exhaust, DP, or boost tubing later will not need to cause your car to be re-tuned. They have tested every combination of parts on their car with the tune and only the intake caused the tune to need to be adjusted.

When i put my intake on i just reset the fuel trims with my interceptor and the car runs perfect. Not one problem in the last 2 weeks that i had the intake on

???? i never heard that.......i mean the biggest change would be with the down pipe if you go cattless there's a pretty significant change in airflow if you know what i mean, but i get the cold air intake thing with the different airflow but i don't think there's much performance gain from it. down pipe and charge piping are going to open up your air flow tremendously i guess with trifecta... theres no need to retune but with hptuners and a custom tune its a different ball game

With trifecta you will need the intake prior to tuning - or tune immediately afterwards. Also, depending on the intake I highly recommend data logging... Vince had to solve several issues concerning my Hahn CAI before the tune was completely smooth. These cars are extremely sensitive to their MAF readings, but can compensate when it comes to changes imposed by other mods....

Based on the fact that I had to readjust for the intake, I do not recommend running around with an intake and no tune (install just prior to tune)...others may not have had problems with theirs - but it is a risk that you may not want to take...

Yes a retune will be needed. THe intakes cause the MAF to be off by as much as 17% ( so you'll be 17% richer or leaner depending on the intake)

Basically all I could say is an echo of everybody else, such as the quote above.

Do you have to retune?... no, the car will adapt within reason. Should you retune?... yes, as it will help get the maximum performance from the mods, smooth out any quirks, and the ECU won't have to adapt as much on its own.

Think of everything from the intake to the exhaust tip as a whole system. Any time you change one thing, it will affect the rest of the system in some way. Tuning after any changes allows you to dial in adjustments to use all the parts to the greatest advantage and take out any issues any of the parts could cause if left untouched.

Mod the stock airbox and put in the K&N drop-in. Save $300. End thread.
