rags to riches

hey guys I just got my new 09 ss t/c a few weeks ago through the cash for clunkers deal they had going and traded in my 95 gmc jimmy with 180k miles and I have never been so happy. I am a total newbie when it comes to knowing alot about cars so please forgive my ignorance. I am already curious and trying to figure out when i get the money what i should do next to my car, Ive been reading on the forums about a learn down feature and was wondering how that would affect any bolt-ons I couldnt find it on the forums but was wondering if I unplugged the battery for a few minutes then replugged it in if it would fix the problem.

my dads got a 99 svt cobra totally perfect condition with a intake, nos and a superchip tweak with only 59,000 miles on it im just trying to follow in his footsteps I dont really have alot of stuff so this car to me is precious and hopefully I can make it last through the ages. I'd sell everything I have to keep this car. Thanks for the welcome and everybodys help I greatly appreciate it.

tune is 1st.... It matters if you want a conservative tune or a "***** out" if you want ***** out then get tune plus all the others i listed... If you want conservative get Tune then a downpipe is definitely 2nd and the rest later if you choose

Welcome, post up pics of your car!

Wilmington kicks ass, I've gone on vacation in that area a few times. I'm totally jealous, I wish I lived there

I got my car in April, Im at 10500 miles lol.

As for the OPs question.... the absolute best route to go is to get a Downpipe/ K&N drop-in filter --- then a Tune --- then any of the following (intercooler, chargepiping, exhaust.)

Your in NC you should hit 1BadblueberrySC (Matt) up for a tune. Tune > any other mod for this car.

For once I actually agree with Cuda (lol)...

Downpipe will really make a difference and you will want to take advantage of it with a tune... Doing the charge piping next is a good upgrade, but nothing to really tune over. However, you will need to tune again after the cai since they have been known to mess with performance (these cars are very particular when it comes to cai's)....

After it is all said and done you can also invest in a cat back... but that is only for the sound...

The reason everyone says, "tune first" is because you'll probably be so happy with the gains that you won't feel the need to do anything else for a while.

Love the Z28. That is arguably the best bang for the buck performance car of all time. I bought a 95 Z new in 96 and still miss it . My brother had to be a tool and buy a 99 Z ......that thing crushed my LT1 after 2nd gear lol. I remember 3rd in an LS1 was unreal compared to the older Z's lol.

That and if you add a Catless DP even if you dont retune it will still show good gains.
