Rebuild With Gen 3 Block
Rebuild With Gen 3 Block
So after I got the build completed and started to drive the car I quickly noticed that it was loosing coolant, seemed as if my ZZP motor had the famed porous block or cracked block. So I got in contact with Matt at ZZP and we decided I should go with the gen 3 block do to the sand casting and the cast in cylinder sleeves. Now there has been some confusion on whether the 2.0 has sprayed in nikasil liners or cast in place liners so I called and talked with GM as well as finding some of the r and d sheets on the ldk an20 block. it indeed has cast in place liners. Any way I ended up sticking to the stock block, no girdle as it should be plenty strong and support around 700 whp I would think. I also left the block with the balance shafts and what not, so I put the mechanical pump back in and got rid of the electric pump. So this build is still on a 6262 pte turbo, full ZZP everything, ZZP 6 speed swap. So here are a few pics.

Damn, after all that still had to get a new block!!
Labor cost must be horrible man. Do you do the work yourself? I'm still always into your builds man. It is a work of art and i can't wait till you make some new passes with that.
I do everything but the machine work, since this was a new block the cylinders needed opened up a smidge, mains got align honed since they were a little tight and the block was good to go.
You can't go off what I had to have taken out. I have my bores set up at 4 thou clearance for what I intend to do. 3.5 thousandths should be sufficient for most people. I wouldn't go any less then that. Wiseco recommends 3 but when I actually called the guy said he thought for 20+ psi and 500+ hp it was to tight. The bores stock were very round which was awesome but they didn't even have to take out .5 thou across the board.
Lol, hence why I went to a new coyote 5.0. Hoping to have the twin kit put on this winter with a t56 trans. Found out if I spent the amount of money I did on the cobalt on my mustang I'd be sitting right around 1000whp and high to mid 8 second 1/4 mile times lol.

Girdled 2.1 though.
