but back to original question, i dont care about price. i just dont want to buy someone elses problem. lets assume he dogged the engine, always being redlined, not shifted very well. how reliable is this power train? how could this car go wrong, what are some things i should look for?
i think the lnf is strong and could take its fare share of abuse. The trans is the weak link of the drivetran, but zzp sells them without lsd for about 700 bucks so its not too bad. Also i would only buy an ss with LSD (dont make my mistake). Things i do when i look at a car to buy. Carfax, Always look a the car in the daylight, testdrive it and drive it hard, make sure it goes in to all grears and reverse, make sure the cluch is not slipping. I like to start the car cold, and see what comes out the exhaust. If the car has mods get the stock parts back from the seller if they have them. You could alway talk to the dealer and see if the will do a 90 point check on the car before you buy it. Anyways good luck with the buy.

LOL, no more knocking on wood for me.

Just a factory 5spd LSD trans will replace it.

There are a very few on here that have had the "porous block" issue, so if you're planning on modifying it, there will be a small amount of risk. The porous block would be covered by the 5/100K warranty, but if you're modified, they will blame it on that. You know how those metal intercoolers can cause porous blocks.

hmm.. i actually am not aware of it... on my SC mustang i have metal intercoolers, and with a powerpipe and intercooler i am managing 18+ psi

maybe i am misunderstanding what porous means?

blocks leaking coolant is what he is referring to and the dealer voiding warranty because of aftermarket intercooler.
