RPM Jump in 5th
RPM Jump in 5th
Hey there, I have a question to see if anybody else has this problem. My 2010 Balt has 25k mi. gm1, drop in k&n. I have noticed whern in 5th at around 70-80mph if i floor it, the rpm's will climb 200 -300 then drop back down to normal and continue to climb as it should. It does not do it right when foot goes down but as the boost seems to kick in and only does it for a sec. but does not do it always and in no other gear or even when in the "real power rpm's" It pulls strong. The boost does not "spike" when this happens either. I am not a hard driver on the clutch.
I hope i explained it well enough.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time

I see the same issue. At 80 mph the tach is over 3k. Doesn't feel like the clutch is slipping, but I could be wrong. It feels to me like the system is building boost and once it does the RPM's drop and then drive hard and fast from there.
rarely do it so may be why i have not noticed it before. Souds like Blackhawk has the same thing so i know im not crazy.lol I have had many cars with clutch slip but this feel starngly different.I am not sure what a daq is but i can watch the afr and the fuel trims. It seems hard to believe the clutch would be going at this early in its life. especially the way i drive it or is the stock clutch just not built to handle the strain in 5th? Remeber it does not do it every time I try.
It may be but why does it not do it ALL the time? feels more like a computer problem. I did watch my AFR when it was doing it and nothing strange. between 14-15 durring regular driving and was closer to 14 when it was doing it but nothing odd.
thanks for the input. Are the stock clutches not built to handle this?

Two possibilities here:
1) You've got mad power and can spin the tires at highway speeds in fifth gear just by mashing the go pedal.
2) Your clutch is slipping.
Let us ponder.... =)

Clutch slips the easiest to cause when you floor the car outside of the main powerband. AKA below 3500 RPMs. if you floored it at 1500 rpms in 4th it would probably do it too. You should pretty much never be floored in 5th unless you're already doing 100 mph
