I think that's where a big part of the cost comes in; Completely disassembling and reassembling the transmission to do the cryo treatment. You can't just do the whole thing at once, all put together. You have to disassemble it for the cryo cycle or it may mess it up.

Def ford! Let me know when your down! And ya I know the veto treatment itself is cheap, but the labor is expensive. I would love the zzp tranny but I think think they are out right now and also would like to stay at least with 4.05 final drive so there's not as much spinning lol. Still waiting to see if there's any in stock or not tho. My stock tranny with this build lasted about 2 months!

Nice! Mine lasted about a month, half of that time being on 15-20psi. But my tranny was also on its way before the build due to the previous owner. I'm guessing synchro shards ate up my input shaft bearing. I had flushed it with new fluid but it doesn't seem like that helped, lol. You got lucky on 2 months though!

Ryan, did you install the ATI pulley, or decide to go another route? MPx pulley? The ATI was a part of your original build list, but then I heard you were selling one too, so I didn't know.

On second thought, i might need you to be missing a gear for our race. Down to run tomorrow?

This is correct. The aluminum contracts more than the steel so it must be disassembled. I had mine done by Controlled Thermal Processing, Inc.

Wow, I wonder if ZZP would be willing to ship out tranny parts from a customer purchase of theirs and then build one of their strengthened ones after the parts have been cryo'd.

oh ya i completely understand you tae everything apart but will cryotreating it really make it stronger and able to handle more abuse or just more brittle? I was told it was the way the edges of the gears are shaped so unless you slightly straighten them a little they really cant be that much stronger. and what about oil treating the gears?

Going to the 4.45 gears helps more than anything else. It increases the mechanical advantage of the rotating parts and reduces stress and therefor breakage. As for Cyrotreating they have been doing it for years in Drag transmissions.
