Damn that engine was nasty. Def needed seafoamed, those pistons had carbon buildup from hell. I thought my pistons looked bad at 32k miles. Technically you could make that a built engine if you watched your money and knew a cheap and good machine shop for right at 1500. Fortunately I do have a machine shop here but its just one young guy, prob 30 or upper 20s. Knows his **** and where its only him its about half the price of anywhere else and you don't have to worry about some new yoohoo they just hired polishing your crank or assembling your head then messing up. Plus he's quick. Anything he ever did for me was at most 1-2 week turnaround time and this guy stays busy.

Debating on making an ecotec short block assembly guide...I would do the long block but the short block would take long enough. Enough people making threads about building their engines and asking tons of questions. I can use my old block as a guide to show most of what to do.

Okay, I'll start on it tonight when I get on the laptop. Need to take some pics of my block so I can highlight some areas on the computer. May wait and grab the NEX-F3 for those rather than use my phone.

i feel you on the "9k later..." I started with a used 2200 dollar 20g turbo kit. Popped my motor, 8000 dollar fully sleeved, forged motor later. I exceeded my power goals for the 20g, exceeded 400 lb ft of torque and horsepower from 4500-7500 and still did it under 10k. I never set out to do a full build but at least my block is ready for 500whp if I choose to do it later. Let the spending begin.

Must've been one hell of a machine shop bill. Unless you bought the sleeve press and did it yourself.

The sleeves were pressed by mrbelvedere, he then sent the block off for decking and honing specifically to make my diamond pistons fit tighter than on a stock block. By the time I paid for the block, sleeves, machine work I was only in it 1200 shipped. The other 7000 outside of the turbo kit went to forged parts, ported head, valves, springs, nuetral balance deletes, clutch, gaskets, blah blah. Oh and 550 for dyno time and tuning done right.

Oh okay, I gotcha. Yeah I have Mr.Belvedere's number. He isn't far from me. Yeah, clutch and dyno tune included, that makes more sense.

Yea I'm goin from a stock car that just had cai, pipes ic and Zzp canned tune to fully built with any and all supporting mods and a turbo kit that ran me 4k so I won't know what to do when I drive it after break in. I guess it's gonna be like a brand new car

so I have talked to ZZP today and we are pretty much settled on the build just waiting on the head to return from whites performance in kingsport tennessee so i can pack it up and head to michigan for a complete build and five pulls on the dyno. they are going to install a manual boost controller so that at a flip of a switch I can go from daily driver to 3rd gear = no traction.........me like lol

Bump, so I sold my bike today! Which means all im waiting on is for my head to return from whites performance which is a well known place for how slow yet perfect there work is. And then I can trailer the car to ZZP. Really wish I could have just drove the car to them in the first place but hey when life hands you lemons throw them away and find a new route. Didn't wanna sell my bike for this but I'm ready to have my cobalt back!

Duo boost with the button is the one of the better option to have imo. Good decision.

I broke out the credit card to build my block and upgrade everything inbetween on the way there. Not the smartest thing but I get bonues throughout the year in my job so I can pay it off in less than a year. 10K including a fully built motor, turbo kit, clutch, supporting mods, guages, etc. Is not that bad in my opinion to make over 400 whp on a dd. Get rid of that boost controller switch and set it up for WOT max boost all the time. My boost controller is my foot. I daily at 411 without any issues.

Honestly I just want it so I can have a daily that my girl friend can drive if she had too. Not that I haven't learned what happens when someone drives my car just gettin serious with her and considering moving somewhere together soon
