Spark Plugs
Spark Plugs
Anyone know what the best spark plug to use for our Cobalt SS/TC?
I have all the Hahn upgrades and had them installed in this order:
Cat Back Exhaust, PPC Tuner
Cold Air Intake
Moduler Down Pipe - Catless atm
Charge Air Piping and Intercooler
I'm having a problem with hesitation at lower rpms and sometimes the car surges right after startup. The hesiatation started after I had the cold air put on. I have seen people post here about the CAI's causing their cars to run like **** and some people saying its fine. Well I talked to Hahn about it and they said it sounded like a air leak in the install for the CAI.
I had it re-installed at a pro shop and they checked it for leaks, none found and the car does seem to run a bit better, but still occusionally I will still get that surge on startup(sounds like this if I can describe it in text, AAAAAaaaaaaa AAAAAAaaaaa AAAAAaaaa = Being the idle pattern large *A* being louder than small *a*) and hesiataiton when putting on full load in a lower RPM range, lets say 2000-2500.
I saw some of you talking about spark plugs and the gapping, and after all the upgrades and tune, that maybe gapping the plug at a lower range. Well thats what I need to know because I can only find 3-4 different plugs for sale for this car.
Cureently have the autolite Iridium plugs gapped at .40. I took one of the plugs out and showed it to a guy that also knows about tuning cars, at his request. It looked a bit brown to him suggesting that the car was running lean. He thinks it might be the PPC tune from Hahn or maybe I need to use a colder plug with a shorter gap.
I have also been talking with my local shop here in Texas, Alamo Auto Sports and one of the guys there are suggesting this Plug by NGK - BKR7E.
So any suggestions? I have a trouble ticket in to Hahn and I'm waiting for a response, but in the mean time any outside help would be highly appreciated.

Here's my 2 cents...

A few thousand on them now, no issues. About 2 ranges colder than stock AFAIK.
I should pull one again and check this weekend.

I replaced with stock plugs and all my issues went away.
